beansideI did the thing again this morning and took my pill around 5am. Then, I promptly fell back asleep and woke up fuzzy when my alarm went off, even though I'd have sworn that I didn't doze off. (Spoiler: I was out.) Now I've had my first cup of coffee, and am sitting here waking up the rest of the way.
After about a week, I seem to have exhausted the majority of the "Expat in Sweden" videos on youtube. This is sad, as I was enjoying hearing about the differences. Time to look on TikToc? They're oddly soothing to me--even the ones that talk about stuff they had trouble with. It helps to know that this has been done before, and that maybe I'm not insane for wanting to immigrate.
I have a lot of reasons for wanting to. The big thing is the social services. It terrifies me that one of us is going to have a serious illness and end up bankrupt. The most you have to pay in a year for doctors in Sweden is about $125, and $255 for prescriptions. That sounds lovely. Then, there's the attitude towards gay and trans people. The US has been getting increasingly hostile towards trans people especially, which worries me. I don't think four years of Biden is going to fix it. Hell, Sweden even has a gender neutral pronoun in their dictionary. No singular they to deal with! Also, 5 weeks of vacation sounds lovely. Best thing, IKEA will help me move. We have people who will help facilitate the transfer.
We're looking at Almhult, where the Swedish call center is. It's a much smaller town than Stockholm, and thus rent is considerably cheaper. We can get a nice 2 bedroom apartment for around $800 a month, which includes wifi, and electricity in some cases. Downside, I probably won't have a car, so that's more walking than I'm used to. Upside, I have time to get ready for that.
I'm probably going to babble about this a bit. It's something that I'm kind of excited about. I'm sure I'll settle down in a little bit.
Okay, time to go forth and have some more coffee, and get ready for work.
