Happy New Year, y'all! We made it to 2024!
Yesterday was a pretty good day for the end of a shittastic year. Didn't do a ton, really. Took my sister up to do laundry so she didn't have to try to find parking, and headed up to see Dad for a couple of hours. While I was there, my sister called to let me know that her phone had fallen, and 2/3 of the screen was dead. I let her know that we'd go to tmobile when I picked her up.
Dad was in a pretty positive mood. He (for the most part) likes the food at this rehab, and the people are nice. It's much easier to be happy to go see him when he's not being a whiny asshole. (Also when the rehab doesn't have that vibe of total despair and gloom.) I mean, it's been three days, so we'll see how he is as we go along, but for the moment, it's pretty good. Then, it was off to pick up the laundry and sister and head to tmobile.
We got there at the perfect time. One guy was sitting there, just waiting for a customer. He got us set up with no problems, and in a relatively short period of time, we were heading home to take in the clothes, and let my sister get ready for her NYE dinner with her in laws.
Around 6:30, the assholes in our neighborhood started setting off fireworks. Which made the dog very neurotic. We ended up sitting in my sister's room with our playlist blaring on the phone and two fans on to drown out the noise. Once my sister got back, he came out warily, but continued to flinch at every bang.
Around 8, we threw in the various appetizers I'd picked up, and I wondered if I'd be able to stay awake til midnight for game.
Jess was having severe pelvic pain (Damn you, endometriosis!) and they had to drop from the game.
The game ended up being a lot of fun. I'd liked this writer's previous story and this was no exception. She gives you a solid story with NPCs and locations and a mystery, but leaves enough room for the GM to flesh out the world, and have fun with tropes. We finished out 2023, and played til about 12:26, thus starting the new year out in the best possible way.
Today, I shall play the second half of a solstice themed game, go see Dad, and then cook a turkey breast for dinner. Then, I shall crash into bed early because fuck, I am not used to late nights.
Anyhow, here's a wish that 2024 will be a gentler, kinder year for all of us. Everyone have a wonderful New Year's Day!
