And somehow we’re back to Monday, all over again. Ew. I feel like I lost most of my weekend to being sick, which is annoying. Worse yet, I spread it, and now Jess is sick too. They spent yesterday nauseous as hell, and ended up dropping out mid-game. So far, it's just been the nausea, but we'll see how it progresses. We have ginger ale! I feel horrible that I gave them my ick, while at the same time I'm kind of grateful, because it means that it's probably not the Mounjaro that caused my distress. I'm going to take the Mounjaro shot today and hope for the best. If it makes me nauseous, that just means that it's not coming to Alaska. I can take Rybelsus for 10 days if need be. By pushing it to Monday from Sunday, it means that I would only need to take 1 shot. (I'll still take two just in case of trip delays.)
On the other hand, I'm feeling mostly better, though still not 100%. Mostly now, I'm just a little more tired and my back is still tender from all the upchucking. I apparently came within inches of throwing my back out, judging by how sore it was Sat night into Sunday. It's improving as well.
Yesterday at noon, we took the puppy in for his longer boarding before the big one. He'll be there 5 days, and his humans are already lonely as fuck. I know it's important that he get accustomed, but it's hard on his parents, too. He's in one of their penthouse suites, which is a small room with a doggy bed and a four poster bed for his use. It's very nice and I hope he has a good time. The couple of times I've looked in, he was either in the bed, or laying by the door. It's an important step, but it sucks. I want my dog. But in 9 days, he's going to have to spend 12 days there, and I want him to be comfortable, and know that we're going to come back for him, even if 5he's there awhile. Still, it's very quiet in the house and I don't like it.
Today, it is 10 days until we leave for Seattle. I repacked my clothes yesterday, shifting a few things from one bag to another. I decided I'm leaving the rain jacket home. I've got a heavier one in my suitcase, so if I need that, I'll use it. Right now, the temps look not bad. Seattle/Vancouver are mid-high 60's during the day. The Alaskan ports look like they'll be low-mid 50's, so not horrible. Three weeks ago, Juneau was still having occasional bouts of snow, so I'll take it. Right now, it's looking like the weather in Seattle and Vancouver will be very pretty. The weather forecast hasn't reached out as far as when we get to the ports, so we'll see. Granted, I won't believe the forecasts until it's a few days out. So maybe by May 4th or 5th, I'll really start looking.
I'm hoping for relatively good weather. I know that most of the places we're visiting in Alaska are within a temperate rainforest, so into every trip a little rain must fall, but that's okay. Doesn't look like they're getting spring storms yet, so the rocking on the ship will probably be minimal. I've got scopolamine patches as well as Zofran if we need it.
I did go ahead and pack that bikini in my carryon, just in case I decide to go in the hot tub while we sail out of Vancouver.
I'm spending a lot of time daydreaming about how the trip is going to go. First the flight, which will be long and boring and I probably won't sleep on. I rarely do, even the early flights. Though, since we're leaving so early, maybe that'll change. I'm planning to go to bed early and try to catch a few hours of sleep, though that's unlikely. I'm going to be pretty excited.
Our car will pick us up at 3:30am EST. After that, we'll be up for 22 hours straight. Everyone else thinks they can sleep on the plane, fortunately. I'll be the one dragging ass at 7pm PST while we're at dinner. Hopefully, our flight, being the first of the day will be on time. All of my timing sort of depends on that, but we'll adjust as need be. I'm hoping that by forcing us to stay up til about 9 will help with jet lag. We'll go to sleep at a reasonable West Coast time, and hopefully get on schedule.
Once we get to Seattle, the limo will be waiting to take us to our Seattle stops (The Space Needle and Pike Place Market.) Then it will whisk us up the coast to Vancouver. We'll check into our expensive hotel and then get ready for dinner. (I sprung for the Pan Pacific, which is right over the cruise port, and will take our luggage down for us on Saturday morning.
The next day is a free day, though we are going to an early dinner with some people from the Facebook group at a place called Tap and Barrel..
Then, the next day, is on the ship. It should set sail at about 4:30pm PST, and we'll be on our way to Alaska! The first day is a sea day, just relaxing and getting used to the ship. Food will be everywhere! Internet permitting, we're going to try to play D&D that morning, but not so early that we won't have time to go down to the buffet and grab some game snacks.
First port is Juneau. I've arranged to rent a car to drive us to the Mendenhal Glacier and anywhere else we decide to go. Then we'll be back to port in time to pick up our whale watching tour. I'm really hoping to see some orcas. Then back on the ship to head to Skagway, where we have the White Pass Railroad, which BIL is super excited about. After we get back from that, we have a date in their Pinnacle Grill steakhouse.
Then we have a glacier day, where we get to see the Dawes Glacier in Endicott Arm. The pictures look lovely, and I'm definitely going to be spending time on the balcony and maybe a bit of time on the bow of the ship, where they'll be handing out split pea soup (a Holland America tradition). We'll finish our evening at the pop up Morimoto restaurant, which should be a lot of fun. (Well, three of us will. The BIL is designating that his casino night.). The last stop will be Ketchikan, where we have a giant crab feast waiting for us. They have a free shuttle bus, so we'll use that to explore the town a little bit afterwards.
Then, the ship will whisk us back to Vancouver, with another sea day to frantcally enjoy the ship for one last day. Then, it's back to Seattle, where we can do whatever we want for the afternoon and evening after dropping our bags at the Cedarbrooke Lodge. The next morning, sadly, it'll be time for another 6 hour plane ride back to Baltimore, hopefully sad that it's over, but with a ton of great memories.
I'm hoping that the bed is comfortable, especially the pullout couch that my sister and BIL are going to be sleeping on. I feel a little bad about that, but we're paying for the majority of the trip, we get the bedroom. (Granted the real cost was the first two people. Adding person 3-4 was only about $2000 for both.)
Mostly, I'm just ready for May 7 to hurry up. I want to get things moving already. I'm glad we're getting our illness out of the way now, so hopefully the trip will go without any crud. I'm planning to mask on the plane, because I am not starting my trip by getting sick there. I'm hoping it's less likely that we'll get sick in first class, since we're the only ones in that row. Masks are in my bag, and ready. I need to get a couple of things of hand sanitizer to put in our liquids bags and remember to use it liberally.
Today shall doubtless be busy, and I'll be on the phone a lot. The new phone system has not been as bad as expected, though sometimes there's definitely some lag. I did what they suggested and am using an ethernet cable to connect, because they swear that wifi isn't sufficient for their precious systme, Which is a failure of their system if you ask me. They sent us new headsets, which I hate. They squeeze my ears more than the old one. As a result, I'm still using the old one, which works perfectly well.
Lots of shit going down at work, though. I know we're losing one person, and I think a couple of others are on thin ice, which will suck, because it takes a couple of months to train a person to do our job, so even if they hire people right away, (which they won't. Hopkins is slow.) we'll be short for a while.
My friend starts on May 11th. Right when I'm out of town, so I'll make sure to ask my other friend to send her a welcome message. And I'll send one before I leave as well. She's already set up on Teams and email.
Hoping Jess feels a little better today. I know they felt miserable last night.
I have my psych appt this evening, which will be a nothing burger. I'm stable on the meds I'm on now, so that should be a 5 minute appt if that. I suppose in honor of that, I'll actually put clothes on. I've been working the last few days while I was sick in a nightgown.
I need to call today to get our disposal looked at. A shot glass fell down there, and I didn't realize it, so I turned the disposal on, and now it's not working. Figure it's a good idea if they come while Yoda is out of the house, so as to make life easy. Hopefully, it's an easy fix and I didn't bork the whole thing.
Tomorrow, I shall make Yoda more food, maybe. I don't want my entire weekend to be cooking. But if I need to, I shall. But I'm hoping to cook a couple of times this week, and then once on the weekend to get enough food to keep him fed for his vacation. I will probably have to order more meat, as I think I'm down to ground meat which doesn't work as well for him. The chicken liver and Lamb seemed to be good for him, the liver kind of went powdery, and it made a really nice stew-type. The others have been a little less wet. He doesn't seem to have a preference, as long as it's stinky.
Mostly I expect the next 10 days to drag unmercifully. Especially the Wednesday before we leave. Work is going to be SO annoying that day. I could be repacking, or getting last minute stuff! I think I've got everything I need except hand sanitizer, but you never know. I have a suitcase, a carry on and a personal item full of things I might need, but it's better to over prepare.
And on that note, I'm going to hop off and get myself together. Gotta work to keep Yoda in the manner he's accustomed, with his homemade food and penthouse suite. Everyone have a fantastic Monday!
