It's Tuesday! We all survived Monday! It wasn't horrific, even though we started the day down by 3 managers/semi managers (like me). As a result, I was not on the phone. I spent the first four hours of my day on the Teams chat, answering questions. In the past, this led to people questioning me, but yesterday it wasn't bad.

It didn't hurt that they were relatively easy questions, and it made the morning fly by.

The afternoon was a wee bit slower, but we got through it.

Unfortunately, my sister also has the stomach ick, which necessitated cancelling a work trip. I feel horribly guilty, but less so since she was really not excited about going. And this will make it less likely that she'll be sick for vacation. The score is now Plague 3-Humans 0. I'm still having some occasional queasiness. It's not bad, but once in a while it still pops up. Usually it only lasts for a minute, but it is there.

After work, I had my psych appt. That was as usual, a nothing burger. Ten minutes later, I was on my way, and we were good to go.

Yoda is at the kennel all this week. Twice a day they send us pictures and report cards. Today, all of his pictures was him snuggling up with the staff for pettings and love. There were some seriously cute pictures, too.

Is that not the smugest damn dog ever?

His most recent report card mentioned that he is the sweetest dog and how it's a pleasure to get to work with him.

I'll draw your mind back and note that this is the dog who flunked out of another daycare. The dog who made the in home sitter say "No, he's too wild," and cancel his second meetup. My dog is awesome, I love him dearly, but he's an asshole. He barks at other people, dogs, sounds in the hallway like it's his Olympic event. But not for them! No, he's the sweetest dog. I can't even.

I'm glad he's happy. I'm paying an exorbitant amount for him to be kenneled this week and for the vacation because he's in his own little suite. No crate for our little prince. He gets a room to himself with both a dog bed and a four poster bed. It has a camera in there so we can watch him while he naps. He gets multiple enrichment sessions per day. (Which for him seems to be cuddle sessions, fuck that lick mat in particular.) And those life giving updates, where the kennel workers jot down a few sentences and send them to us. We live for those. It'll be easier on vacation, when were doing stuff. But while we're just sitting at home, it's hard to be without the baby.

I know it's needed. He needs to get more social, and he needs to get used to being boarded for multiple nights, so he knows we'll come back for him, but it's tough on us while he's away. The house is too quiet. No jingling tags, no barking. It's quiet. No walks, which has honeslty been a blessing for Jess while they're sick. Between my knee acting up and the stomach bug, I haven't taken him out in a week at least.

We are officially down to single digits til vacation. Things are ramping up, and the excitement is rising. Our boarding passes downloaded to our phones, so that's another step towards the cruise!

The night before we leave, poor Jess has a game, so they're going to get almost no sleep. Maybe 4.5 hours. I'm hoping to get at least 6, but we'll see. That would be close to a normal amount of sleep for me. Everyone else can do as they wish as I am only boss of my own underpants, and I want a little sleep. It'll mean going to sleep before sunset, but I've done that of my own free will before.

I bought Clear's Concierge service. It'll get us through the security line faster and smoother, I think, which will be good. Anything to speed that up is a bonus in my books. It wasn't very expensive, even for the four of us, so I bought it. We'll see how it works/if it saves time/if we need it on the way back. Seattle is a pretty big airport, so it might be worth it. Basically someone meets you at the curb and will walk you through the whole process. I mean, I know the process, but I've never done it on a family scale before, so any help is useful.

The first step is to go to the first class line and check the bags that are getting checked. We each have one enormous suitcase. As far as carry on, my sister and I both have the Nomad Lane Bento bag as our personal item. I think I'm the only one who has a carryon suitcase. It's a baby pink kid's suitcase, but it's the perfect size to fit a change of clothes and a jacket and the Jase Case of emergency meds. Honestly, the bento bag fits so much that I thought I could get away with just that, but alas, fat people clothes take up more space. Mostly the bento bag will be cosmetics, regular meds, swimsuit, electronic cords and the like. And my headset, because we plan to play D&D on Sunday, internet willing. My big suitcase is topping out at about 43lbs. Not horrible.

We spent the evening re-watching a couple's Alaska cruise on the same ship that we're on. They had a Neptune Suite, which is one (long) step down from the Pinnacle suite that we're in. Still, they have a lot of the same perks, so it's nice to see what they did, and what perks they used. One big difference is that they have priority check in, but we have concierge check in. We'll take our little picture at the kiosk and scan our passport, but then instead of going into the cattle call room where you wait to be called, we'll get escorted to the managers desk for a personal escort through security. They may actually take us through the crew security to avoid crowds. They'll take us through the ship in a mini tour and take us to the Neptune Lounge to meet our (and the Neptune suite occupants) dedicated concierge.

I plan to ask the concierge about setting up a morning delivery of pastries and coffee, since I know I'll be up early, and then I can sit and write my little journal entry while sipping coffee and having a croissant. Possibly while freezing on our balcony.

I'm 100% ready for the cold. I know at night, temps could get down into the low 40's or even the 30's, so I'm braced. I've got a fleece lined rain coat, and a heavy North Face fleece jacket. Between the two and a pair of fleece leggings, they should keep me warmish. Right now, at nearly 2 am in Juneau, it's 37 degrees, so I'm defintely going to need the layers.

Nine days, y'all. It's just next week. I'm nervous and excited, and just want to get in that limo to go to the airport. Even though TSA is better now, we're still planning on getting there 3 hours early. It just seems safer. We have lounge access at BWI, so we can grab a bit of coffee, maybe some snacks, and relax before the flight.

The flight itself is going to be an endurance test. 6+ hours. It's been over 30 years since I had a flight that long. At least it's first class, so I won't be crammed in like a sardine. We'll get a full breakfast service in flight, so that's something to look forward to. Garlic Parm eggs and bacon sound pretty good to me. Alaska air just started a food initiative to make the meals better, so we'll see how it tastes. The real question is when we get second drink service, do I want to get a mimosa to kick it off. The answer is maybe, and we'll see. When we're landing, my body will think that it's one pm, even if the time says 10 PST, so technically that's not drinking before noon, right?

And before we know it, I'll be looking out the window at the Pacific Ocean and the Rocky Mountains.

Right now, the forecast is saying that there will be showers in Juneau. It would be nice if it finished before our whale watching tour. Still, there's a bit of time for the forecast to change for the better. My shoes are waterproof, so I'll be good for any walking we need to do. I'm taking my cane, just for support. I'm going to be doing a lot of walking and sometimes my knees get cranky about that, so a little extra help is good.

In Juneau, I rented a car so that we can make our way out to the Mendenhall glacier and then to anywhere else we want to go. I'll drop it back off and we'll meet up with the nice people for our private whale watching tour. It wasn't too expensive, and then we don't have to take a tour and be stuck there for hours while people hike trails that I cannot physically do.

We were going to pack for Jess this past weekend, but with them coming down with the stomach bug, that didn't happen, so maybe we'll do that one night this week so we're not packing last minute. I feel like things get forgotten that way. The nice thing is that I have gotten them a boatload of underwear, so we can probably pack enough for the trip and they'll still have some for the next 9 days untill we leave.

But aside from that, it's just the waiting. How can 9 days be so short, yet feel so long!

Today, hopefully work will be quiet, and it'll be a good day. It would be nice if everyone is back, but we'll see. I can't remember if I set up my away message yet, so I should do that so that I don't forget. I've already put in mail holds and Fedex holds, so we should get minimal packages while we're away.

My stomach continues to improve. Yesterday, I ordered from a nearby Jewish Deli so I could get Jess and my sister some matzo ball soup, which was so good and salty and delicious. I had some and also got myself half a brisket sandwich, all of which settled. Dinner was chicken noodle and latkes from the deli. I liked the matzo ball soup better, but the chicken noodle was also good. Depending on the state of tummies today, I may be ordering more.

Jess, I think, is on the mend. They're still a bit queasy, but not the full blown nausea of Sunday night. My sister is currently in the throes of full nausea. We'll see how they're both feeling today before we decide between soup and crackers or something else a tiny bit more adventurous, like grilled chicken.

And on that note, I'm going to hop off and start getting ready. Everyone have an outstanding Tuesday!
