Greetings from the weekend! I'm currently trying to wake all the way up so that we can run up to Cracker Barrel and get our Holiday Dinner.
Dad is doing okay, though his oxygen levels are still not great. He has a few things wrong with him, starting with pneumonia, and fluid around his lung. Yesterday, I went early while he was still in the ER, and sat for a couple of hours. Then I came home and Jess went over for a couple of hours. He slept the whole time, and is oxygen sats were kind of up and down. I'm a little worried about the constant sleeping, but we'll see how he does after another day or so on the antibiotics.
The ER doctor seemed to think he'd be there through Christmas, which while it sucks for him, is actually kind of a blessed break for us. Then again, hospitals have screwed us before and sent him home randomly, so I'm not getting my hopes up.
We've decided to give a rehab another try for him. He makes the mouth noises about wanting to get stronger and be able to do more things, so this is his chance. It's complicated by having a few places that we won't send him to, but hopefully, they'll be able to find him something. I've looked and found four possible options, which I will give to the social worker when I speak with them. Hopefully one will have a bed, and maybe he'll get a little stronger. I'm not asking for miracles. I know walking isn't going to happen. He's not that motivated. But if they could get him a little more mobile in bed, and maybe get him to the point that he can sit on the edge of the bed. I'd hail them as miracle workers if they could get him to transfer from chair to bed.
Realistically, it'll probably just give us a few weeks break before we get back a fully functional speedbump, but it would be a lovely break. I love him, but I'm realistic. He's 82, and he's probably never going to walk again, because he won't put in the work. But if it gives us a tiny break to catch our breath, it'll be worth it.
Aside from that, things are quiet. I finally pulled the trigger and got my nice charcuterie plate, and had it for game. The spicy olives are excellent, but very spicy indeed, and the goat cheese spread and fig jam are amazing. It may have spoiled me for other game snacks.
Okay, time to go forth and get some prime rib! Everyone have a wonderful Saturday!
