Yesterday was a less than awesome day. I spent it restless and anxious and a little sad. Not having anything to do is really starting to get to me. I'm really hoping I get a hit soon, but realistically, it'll probably not be until after the new year.
I went out to the bakery early add bought a fuckton of pastries and donuts, which are excellent as usual. Then, I came home and relaxed for awhile.
Then, abruptly, my brain decided to latch onto the fact that we have no decorations up. This seemed to be the worst thing possible. Everyone was festive but us! So, I went on a hunt to find a nice simple wreath for the front door. While I did that, my brain kindly threw up some grief, reminding me how it was a tradition for my mother and I to go to the nursery and choose a wreath, usually a week or so from my birthday. I have years of memories of walking around the greenhouses to look at specimens ranging from simple to garish. I went to the farm store first, but the wreathes they had were browning at the edges, and not at all what I wanted. The Lowes garden center wasn't any better. They had a few pricey ones with gold dipped holly, but not what I wanted. As a last ditch attempts, I went to the nursery we used to go to. I figured it would be expensive, but I was desperate, with my jerkbrain yelling that if I can't find this wreath, Christmas would be ruined.
It's funny, the nursery was much smaller than I remembered. I didn't have to walk through the greenhouses though. On a little tripod out in front, there was a small, delicate wreath with a big red bow and a few holly branches and pine cones. It was exactlly what I wanted, and it cost $20.
Then it was back home to sit and be anxious and pine for a charcuterie board.
Finally, it was time for game, which was lovely. My Strahd players are so paranoid, it's hilarious. Towards the end, I heard dad cussing, because apparently, he peed on himself a bit. My sister had it under control, so I finished up the game. As I was walking out of my office, I heard him cussing, so I went into check.
He seemed a little vague, so we checked his temp and oxygen. His temp was high, and his oxygen low despite being on oxygen, so off tot he hospital he went.
I went over behind the ambulance, but the ER was WAY backed up. Just packed. After 3 1/2 hours, he was still in triage and projected to be there for another 2-3hrs. Deciding that descretion is the better part of valor, I came home and slept for four hours. In a little while, I'll get my shit together and go back and try again.
So, that's my day sorted. Hopefully, it's an infection, and once he's had a few days antibiotics, he'll be back home. For now, though. I'm going to get a second cup of coffee and try to wake up.
Everyone have an excellent Friday!

Date: 2023-12-22 04:12 pm (UTC)cool you found a good wreath, it sounds perfect. I've got to admit, I still have last year's up. I purchased a nice fake one years ago, then my sister began bringing me real ones every year - I'd leave them up on the inside of the front door for ages past Xmas. this year I postponed, but intended to take it down in autumn, figuring I'd get a replacement but that didn't happen. and neither did the replacement wreath. so the old one is still there - looks great, though there's no scent, and of course when I do take it down there'll be needles everywhere
