Nothing like a 6am call from the hospital, asking you to call you father. However, the phone lines haven't opened up yet, so I am unable to do so yet. And when I tried to call the aid back, I got sent to the main desk. So, I get to sit here worrying that he's agitated, and I can't get through to help settle him down. As I was typing this, I suddenly had the idea to call the floor, and they put me through, and he didn't answer. *head-fucking-desk*. So, I suppose I'll wait for them to call me back.
Fortunately, my sister is going to go see him this evening while we have our game. Hopefully, we'll know more about what's going on today. He had his MRI late yesterday, so they haven't gotten results yet, probably this morning. Apparently there was a delay in the MRI because they didn't feel like they could pause his medications for the 30 minutes it would take to do the MRI, since the IV pump can't be in the room.
Honestly, I don't think there's going to be a good answer. There's only three real options that I can see. Either he had a stroke or a brain bleed or it's sudden onset dementia. None of the three are good. The nurse said they don't think it's the phenobarbital, and I have to agree. To be honest, that was always my sister's obsession, not mine. When it was just that he was tired and forgetting words, sure. Maybe. But this is in a whole different arena. My suspicion is a brain bleed, possibly because of him falling the first time. Though who knows, really.
When I went to see him, he was at the MRI for the first 20 or so minutes, then when they brought him back, he was super agitated. Judging from it, he did not enjoy the MRI experience. He was full of "No." and "Don't touch me." They told him he had a visitor, and he replied that he didn't care. I think he sort of knew who I was? Though to be fair, he might have thought I was mom again. I look a lot like her.
He wasn't really very chatty while I was there, mostly muttering "Oh god," over and over. They finally got his heart rate down a bit, though after the MRI it was right back up. So really, no clue what today will bring, but we're gonna find out.
Oh! One incredibly nice thing from yesterday. Led by the awesome
poisontaster, my players got together and bought me three new D&D source books! Watching those emails come in from roll20 made me have feelings. I got all choked up. I really needed something good and that made me so happy. I saved the emails and go look at them whenever I need something.
Okay, time for me to go grab some more coffee and attempt to do some work. I left a few things yesterday because I did not have the brain cells to do it.
