Ah, Friday. We have finally arrived at D&D day! And, y'know, my weekend. Which is important. We have no plans for the day really. I have to go out and get my pills from Walgreens, and I want to watch the rest of Thor: Love and Thunder so I can cry like a baby. Aside from that, my day will be spent obsessing over what I have planned for D&D tonight, and trying to decide if I've made too big of a challenge for my party.
I got myself all prettied up, put on the new underwire bra, and the nice patterned top and dress pants and jacket and went into work for my half day. I got all my work done and was absently picking at the project former former manager has me working on, but my brain wasn't really in it. Finally, 11am rolled around, and I headed for my interview.
I think it went okay? I managed to stay mostly on point in my answers, the hiring manager said she liked a couple of my answers about collaboration and leading from a place of kindness. And then, at the end, I managed to score some points by giving a concrete example of a system I'd like to see spotlighted and how it would affect the bottom line for IKEA. If I get the job, it may be on the strength of that alone, honestly. The hiring manager is the business navigator, so she is all about the dollar signs. They didn't have much info about the job, though. I asked a few questions, and they really didn't have answers yet. It kind of sounds (unsurprisingly) that they're going in ass backwards and assembling the team before they actually have the ways of working figured out. They couldn't tell me what the schedules will be like or anything. On one hand, it's a little concerning. On the other, it could be getting the opportunity to create the position, which could be exciting.
It'll be at least two weeks before I hear back, possibly three, so now I shall try to let it go. (Let it go she says, as she checks her email obsessively.)
The rest of the day was quiet, as I had scheduled to leave half an hour after the interview ended, so that was nice. I came home and immediately put on more comfortable clothes.
Then, last night, I got the email that my panel was accepted for
confabcon. It's, not shockingly, about D&D, and where to find resources. I can definitely talk about D&D for 45 minutes, but now starts the trawling to find resources for new players. Which could be challenging. Eeee! I'm excited, but also nervous. Time to brush off my powerpoint skills. At least I have til late October to get the script written and everything set up. I do need to get a summary done in the next two weeks, but I should be able to do that. Confabulation is a virtual con that runs from October 22-23, and is full of fandomy goodness. They should be rolling out the list of full panels soon, and I highly recommend it.
Okay, time for me to get myself together, have some more coffee and maybe put on pants. Have a good Friday everyone!
