And suddenly, it's Saturday again! How the hell did that happen?

I had a lovely birthday, doing nothing but baking. First up was scones, but the recipe called for a LOT of baking powder, and the final result was a little sour/bitter. Probably will be giving those to the birds. The second however was a Ricotta Cheese Pie. I thought it would be more cheesecakey, but instead it ended up being this wonderfully light and flavorful custard. I should add, going off reviews, I added a little extra sugar and vanilla. I was really pleased with how it turned out, and there's only two slices left after we all tore into it yesterday, so I consider it a success.

Then for my birthday dinner, we had Chinese food from the excellent hole in the wall place. Their General Tso's was a little spicier than usual, but still amazing. We had D&D, so that was the only celebrating we did. Today, I'll decide if I want to get cupcakes or make them. I'm torn, on one hand I really like the cupcake place. On the other, it's on the Avenue, which is a major shopping area/movie theater/etc, and parking is bound to be a mess. I will think on it for a while.

Aside from that, no big plans today. I know my sister is going to be taking BIL shopping since he still can't drive post neck fusion, so I suppose we're on Dad duty during that time. Don't know how long that'll take.

Last night was D&D. Our intrepid heroes finished up in Targos, searching the rooms of the now deposed speaker and sheriff. Turned out the speaker was secretly a Zhentarim spy (think mafia) trying to bring the ten towns under a stranglehold for trade. They found coded letters and were able to translate some finding the names of a few spies in the ten towns. In the sheriff's office they found more documents detailing the speaker's villany with an eye to taking over himself.

Then, it was time to leave Targos to move on to the long-delayed Lake Monster in Bremen. On the slow trudge there, a giant bird flew over head, ridden by a beautiful ten foot tall womam--the module's big bad, Auril. She waved a hand, and suddenly three Frost Giant Skeletons appeared before the party. Roll initiative! The battle was less one sided than usual, as the skeletons dealt massive amounts of damage. The cleric turned undead, and one fled! The other hit zir with it's freezing stare for 42 points of damage! The bard and sorcerer used some great area of effect spells to just batter the skeleton while the cleric defrosted. The halfling rogue too 31 points of damage! The paladin no sold freezing stare thanks to boots of the winterlands that reduced it to half damage! The rogues and paladin finally brought one of the skeleton's down. The second skeleton was felled, and the sorcerer decided not to leave an enemy behind and shot the turned one, bringing him back. The sorcerer also no sold the freezing stare, thanks to making her Con save and having a wand of frost to bring the damage to one quarter. After a couple of more rounds, the final skeleton was brought down by a shot from the bugbear rogue's laser pistol (it's first use in game!)

Then after some healing, it was onwards to Bremen, and some snooping around about the lake monster. We wrapped up there as it was getting late, and will deal with the actual monster on New Year's day for our one year anniversary session!

Tomorrow, I shall have work, and then afterwards, we shall play Beyond the Witchlight!

It is a good D&D weekend.

Now to get more coffee and take some ibuprofen, because the weather is giving me a wicked headache.

Have a good Saturday everyone!
