It's Tuesday! We survived Monday! Mind you, I have nothing exciting planned for today, it's just nice to be a little bit closer to the weekend. Of course, our full work crew is in today, so the chances of having extra work to do while I'm bored is slim to none. So we'll see what I end up doing most of the day.

I find myself in a conundrum today. I woke up to an email from my father in law, who we have no contact with, and will henceforth be known as Fuck that Guy. He wants to give me a "more meaningful" birthday gift this year than an Amazon gift card and would like some ideas. On one hand, my normal kneejerk niceness wants to reply and tell him he doesn't have to do that. On the other, I feel like this is him trying to make inroads again, and the next email will want information about Jess, which he isn't going to get. He's not technically breaking any rules that we set forth. I agreed to be the point of contact. Considering how little he actually seemed to like me or Jess' and my relationship, it just seems weird. (He was always pleasant to my face, but when Jess would go down alone, he would usually try to convince them to move back in with them. Me and my lack of college and low ambition was beneath them. And, of course there's the fact that he was an abusive, gaslighting asshole to Jess.) It seems that there's no benefit to replying, but that feels bad, too. I think I'm in a situation where I'm just fucked either way. I will have to think on it for a while, and see what Jess thinks.

It was not the best wakeup in history, let me just say.

Today, the oven gets it's real test. We're going to roast a chicken for dinner, and have stuffing, and I'll probably make gravy, if I have the energy. We shall see how it goes. Yesterday, I went on a bit of a baking spree, and we have gingerbread cake, chocolate chip cookies and blueberry muffins. I'll have to wash out the mixing bowl before I can make anything else, but I'm still feeling the baking itch, so I probably will. We still have a few mixes that I could make, or I might try something from scratch. We'll see. I'd forgotten how much I liked baking, since all we had was a tiny little toaster oven. And, bonus, my breaks are just long enough that I can mix something up and throw it in.

Okay, that's about it for today. Have a good Tuesday, y'all.

Nope. Until he acknowledges his shitty behavior and says he wants to make amends and puts the work in to show that (like, he leads with an apology to Jess at the very least), don’t engage. You’re dead-on right that he’s trying to start the whole nasty game again.

totally this! don't engage with him - if you have to answer, just say something like "I can't think of anything, thanks" and leave it

wow, it sounds like you're doing ALL the baking! enjoy the fruits of your labour; are you able to freeze part, so there will be goodies later on?

I hope you continue to have fun, and to produce tasty stuff for you (and your family)
