I'm tired and a little sore today. Apparently, 5 hours of D&D is a little much for my body. By the time we got to bed, my neck and back were screaming. Totally worth it, but ow.

Yesterday, not a whole lot got done. I went to the grocery store to get Dad some flavored seltzer, so he'd stop drinking my sodas. (I keep them for when my blood sugar goes low to bring it up quickly.) Then it was back to wait for the vet to call with Sam's bloodwork.

Turns out they don't call until after patients, so it was about 4 before my phone rang. Sam, as expected, had hyperthyroidism. Liver and kidney functions were a little off, but nothing majorly concerning, or really unexpected for a nearly 20 yr old kitty. He'll be on a pill twice a day for the rest of his life, so it's a good thing he's a sweet, and kind of stupid cat, as he'll be easier to pill. He'll get a recheck in about a month, by which time he'll hopefully have gained a little weight.

Today, we have to pick up our Walmart order, and a trip to the grocery store, because Walmart was out of a few things. If I have the energy, I'll hit the mall and return my boots to Torrid, as they were a wee bit too tight across the instep. I have a really high instep, and I didn't realize how flat the boots were. It's the same reason I can't wear Chucks.

Last night was D&D! Our intrepid heroes went to Targos, to see what could be done about their sacrifices. Upon arriving, they found that Targos is a bit if a dictatorship, where speaking against the regime is illegal.

The plan was for part of the party to infiltrate, part to get arrested, and part to confront the Speaker of the town and promise violence if their demands were not met. The first part went well, with our fighter going to the sheriff to sell her sword. He turned out to be a slimy bastard who while willing to take her services also proposed other services she could do to get to the top.

The rest of the party headed to meet up with two people they'd met on a prior adventure, and their dog Boy to scope out how the town's human sacrifices worked, and what the feel was around the town. They also asked hypothetically who else could step up to be Speaker, if this speaker was hypothetically deposed. They were referred to the proprietor of the local general store.

The bugbear rogue and the paladin were sent off to feel out the proprietor, who was amenable to their plan, as near as they could tell. He told them that there was 200 militia members, but only 16 veterans, who were fanatically loyal to the Speaker and Sheriff.

Then, the cleric, bard and sorcerer as well as the NPC wizard headed to talk to the Speaker. He was not amenable to stopping the sacrifices, stating it was for the Glory of Targos, and that they were going to make the town great. (Many groans met this pronouncement.) They would show the world that they were the most pious, and Auril would reward them.

The halfling rogue got caught pickpocketing and was taken to the jail, awaiting her trial the next morning.

After a mock trial in which the halfling was found guilty, it was announced that she would be the next sacrifice on the next morning.

The next morning, all hell broke loose and the group sprang into action. The sheriff was immobilized with Hypnotic Pattern, and the Speaker found himself levitated and encased in darkness.

With no one to properly command them, the 16 veterans attacked. Only to find themselves being hit with a fireball from the sorcerer. The NPC outright killed three with Chain Lightning. The rest of the crew leapt into the fight. The veterans were tougher than expected, and the battle raged for a while, but the heroes emerged triumphant. Our fighter killed the now released sheriff, and the speaker was taken into custody.

We closed there, and the party received enough experience to level up! Next game will be on my birthday, which is an awesome way to spend it.

Okay, time for more coffee and to get this day started. Have a great Saturday, everyone!
