Totally muffed up my Rybelsus this morning. I forgot to take it at 4am when I briefly woke up, and remembered this fact after I had already taken one of my morning pills, So I took it then, with the other pills and am holding off eating or drinking for 30 minutes. Not sure how well it's going to work with the other pills, but we shall see. I'm annoyed with myself for forgetting it in the wee hours, but I suppose I was just really tired.
I woke up to a bad pain day. My neck and shoulders are absolutely screaming this morning. I have no idea what I did to piss them off, but it's definitely going to be an ibuprofen heavy day.
Aside from a trip to Walmart to pick up cat food and Monster of the Week, we did absolutely nothing yesterday. Walmart was important, though, and they had the food with extra gravy, which makes Sam very happy.
Then, it was time for MOTW! The hunters were summoned to a homeless shelter where several regulars had recently gone missing. Human remains have been found in the area, but have not yet been identified. One of the volunteers, who the hunters previously helped, has called for them to check out the place.
The sorcerer, being filthy rich, poses as a potential donor and gets them a tour of the building with the director, a totally non-magical woman who gives off serious white savoir and "nice white lady" vibes. She tells them that they specialize in homeless vets, and the shelter is funded almost completely by the Varg family. The sorcerer recognizes the name of another family of magical practitioners. The shelter is nice--too nice. Warning bells are tripped when they declare that they only employ a night guard for the outside of the premises, because they never have violence in the shelter. They're so confident in this that their benefactor regularly comes to visit and brings his daughter Ashley along for the visit.
The divine sneaks into some of the off limits rooms and finds a staff breakroom equipped with a state of the art surveillance system and a records room, bursting with file cabinets. They are unable to use their teleportation from the latter, prompting more suspicion.
They chat with a couple of the regulars, finding the veteran who found the remains. He describes what he found, and mentions that in the back end of the alley, he saw a pair of glowing eyes, and heard a growling noise.
The team goes to the alley, and searches magically and otherwise. They follow the trail of the creature to a copse of trees in a nearby park, where they find a girl's silver ring. More magical scrying combined with some internet searches confirms that it belongs to Ashley Varg.
The team goes to the Varg mansion, which is opulent in a way that screams "new money." The sorcerer is slightly disdainful of this display. They meet Ashley's mother Vanessa and convince her to let them speak with Ashley, who is currently taking her dressage lesson. The horse barn is plush, and heavily fortified, with security doors and barred windows. Vanessa plays this off as the neighborhood not being what it used to be, but the hunters are suspicious.
Ashley proves to be an entirely unpleasant 16 year old. She's rich and stuck on herself. She gives very little information. The apprentice spell slinger itches to smack her.
While the sorcerer and his apprentice are busy being insulted by Ashley, the rest of the crew sneaks into her bedroom, finding a hidey hole with a pack of lock picks. Her internet search history shows that she was following the recent missing person/remains found cases with interest.
After that, it's back to home base for some research. Due to the reflective eyes in the alley, the creature doing the murders is suspected to be something cat-related, and griffins and manticores are both brought up.
The divine teleports back to the homeless shelter bathroom and manages to break back into the records room, stealing various files, and noting that there's a pervasive magic in the whole shelter. It seems to be oppressive, forcing the people in the shelter to an unnatural calmness.
The records show that they were performing magical charms on the vets, preparing them to be "gainful members of society."
We wrapped it right around there, with our heroes ready to burn the whole place to the ground and will pick up in a few weeks.
Today, I have my performance evaluation at 10. I'm not expecting it to be anything bad, but I hate these things. They expect me to have thoughts on my progression, and honestly, I am thought-free for the most part.
We did get a mailer for our upcoming open enrollment time, giving us updates on what new benefits we're providing. I was very pleased to see that we're expanding our gender confirming surgeries to include facial feminization surgery and tracheal shaving. We'd already covered top and bottom surgery, so this isn't a huge shock. We're also increasing our PTO to five weeks a year, which is wild to me. The benefits of working for a company that originates in a socialist country. In addition they're creating a new flex spending plan that you can use for loosely defined wellness plans that includes things that enhance your physical or emotional well being. This can include things like meditation, gyms, or more nebulous things like concert tickets, or entry fees for sports leagues. It seems like if you can say it's for your mental health, you can use it. The company is paying into it as well, so it's not just using your money for it.
Okay, time to get ready for work, and have some more coffee. Have a lovely Sunday, everyone!
