Actually slept last night, which was good. Still didn't want to wake up this morning. I laid in bed for a little while after my alarm went off, but I realized I was getting dangerously close to falling back asleep, so I heaved myself out of bed. There's just not enough coffee in the world this morning.
Ah well, today will probably be quiet at work. My markets won't come in until late, assuming they come in before I leave for the day, so I'll be doing some busy work during the day.
Baltimore schools start back today, so in two weeks, the positivity rate will probably climb again. At least most of our counties are requiring masks, so that's something. I just don't trust people to keep their kids home.
Of course, with the season rapidly heading into Fall,it means I need to get off my ass and call the nice cleanup people for the basement and get them out here. I'm not looking forward to it. I don't know what they're going to have to do, and if Jess and I are going to be allowed to stay for it, since we live in the basement. We may have to get a hotel room for a few nights. Also, Boodle will be greatly inconvenienced, as she's partially downstairs kitty. I won't know anything til I call, so I need to get off my ass, because we cannot do another winter without central heat, and the gas company won't come in until we have a professional clean up. It's bullshit, but it's what we've got, so it's gotta be done.
I cancelled my gyn appointment for Friday, because I didn't feel comfortable having an in person appointment. Then I remembered that I have an in person pscyh appointment on Friday as well. At least the office practices social distancing, so that's not too bad. Still a pain.
The dog and cat are driving me insane. It's like they're fucking tag teaming to be the most annoying that they can be. I just want to drink my coffee and wake up, and they're just constantly up my ass. I took Yoda out, for him to do absolutely nothing and I've fed and stirred up the cat's food. I just don't know what the little asshole wants. Possibly to drive me out of my mind.
The KN95 masks are a bit harder to breathe in than the ones I've been using. This could be an issue, as it tends to give me a bit of a panic attack, feeling like my asthma is acting up. I've got a month to get used to them, so hopefully that'll work.
Vacation is now a month (31 days) away.
Okay, time to get my ass in gear. Have the best Monday you can have, everyone!

Date: 2021-08-30 04:33 pm (UTC)At any rate, re: masks, I can tell you about one other experience I had in case that data is useful to you. I do not personally find the KN95s hard to breathe in--as long as I am just sitting at a desk. Teaching f2f is a different story. But even sitting at a desk over time, the KN95s do tend to allow my glasses to fog up if I have them on.
I think I have had slightly better luck with these:
duckbill style, non healthcare N95s N95s.
since I just got back from my covid test (thanks, student who attended class with symptoms!), I'l let you know how effective they are tomorrow.
They're not cheap, and they don't come in a smaller number than this--at least I haven't found a smaller than 50 pack. They also have behind the head straps as opposed to behind the ear straps, but my friend with a super big head was able to use them, so I think they are pretty much one size fits damn near everyone, even on the strap front. But I generally feel like they are a bit lighter weight material than the KN95s I've been wearing, and it's possible that since they extend so far in front of your face, they will feel less restrictive.
(On the other hand, you are stuck buying at least 50 of them, so if they don't work for anyone in your house, that would suck. In other words, I won't be upset if you don't want to try them, but I found that they were slightly better about preventing my glasses from foggin up, and thought that you might find that data useful. YMMV.)
