It's a quiet morning at casa beanside, since I'm the only one up right now. This is about to change as I hear my sister and Yoda stirring. Ah well, I've been up an hour, so I can't really bitch. Today shall be D&D, so that'll be fun! I don't know what else we'll get up to. We'd talked about going to the dump, but I woke up with my back pissed off, and would likely not be much help.
I must have slept weirdly last night, as today not only is my lower back a little cranked off, so is my shoulder. My good shoulder, of course. It'll ease up as the day goes on, I'm sure.
Of course, after I was less than enthused about my solitude being disturbed, my sister has informed me that she ordered some Hello Panda cookies for Jess and me off Zulily. Okay, apparently 32 boxes of Hello Panda cookies. That's a lot of cookies. I guess I won't be bitching that there's no good snacks for a while. She drives me crazy sometimes, but I do love her very much, and she's very sweet.
Yesterday, we watched F9, the latest of the Fast and the Furious movies. It was utterly ridiculous, but an entertaining way to spend a couple of hours. Due to repeated interruptions, it took us most of the afternoon to watch it, so we didn't really have time to watch anything else. I considered getting Premier access on Disney Plus, to watch Black Widow and Jungle Cruise, but decided against it. I can wait for both of those to arrive on the regular streaming service.
My fanny pack came for vacation, only to find that with all the shit I need to pack into it, It's very heavy and uncomfortable. Might end up going with a purse and just making use of the lockers. I'll see. I have to keep my glucose meter in there, which is not a small thing. I'm just afraid with all the exercise we'll be doing, my sugar is going to go low, which will require a glucose tablet (which also needs to go in there. Then, there's inhalers, plus cell phone and wallet, and you've got a well-stuffed pack. It all fits, but it's not the most comfortable thing. A purse and a locker might be a better option, or a combination of the two. I've got two months to figure it out, so no huge rush.
Okay, I've had my second cup of coffee, and I guess I'm ready to face the day. Have a good Saturday, everyone!

Date: 2021-08-03 07:51 am (UTC)shorter recreated version: I used to have (And may still have tucked away in a bag inside a bag somewhere) this adorable tiny backpack from REI. It was small enough that it did not cause problems for my neck and held just the amount of stuff you need for an amusement park visit. (BIG water bottle, extra layer, sunscreen, hand sanitizer, wallet, sunglass case, small bottle of Advil, etc.)
Alas, they stopped making it. I upgraded to a slightly larger one from Osprey, which is more expensive.
It looks like the current REI tiny backpack does exist. It's not quite as aesthetically pleasing as the other, and I realize that it might not work for you, but I have found that using the hip belt, as dorky as it looks, makes a difference.
(Incidentally, my experience with folks in the REI chat is that they are crazy good when it comes to customer service, unlike AMERICAN AIRLINES THE EVIL GREAT SATAN. Sorry, that just slipped out for some reason. I've only been on hold with them for over 4 hours after they canceled my flight the night before I was schedule to go.) I mention that because if you have enough lead time, if they don't know a question--like how many inches is X strap or how many inches is the hip belt, I bet they would be happy to answer without grief.)
I also realize, however, that I live within driving distance of an REI store, and can skip paying for shipping.
I replaced the old one with the Osprey Daylight backpack. It's more expensive, and the mesh pockets on mine (Which I think is a slightly older version) are USELESS for carrying anything. (Nothing is secure in mine.)
it has a hip belt that looks to be about 40 inches but that doesn't count the width of the backpack itself (Which adds about 9 inches) and fits me even though my hips are larger than 40 inches.
I understand that plenty of people have injuries that make a backpack impossible, but even with my neck, I have found that one that fits well and has a hip belt to distribute some of the weight to my hips is often better for me than other options.
Your mileage may vary. And the Osprey Daylight is pricier than the REI one, but I thought I would put those options out there in case either works OR sparks some other thought that leads you to your perfect amusement park carrying bag solution.
Also, thanks for giving me something calming to do while I pass the 4.5 hours on hold with American mark. ::headdesk::
