Well, that was a fucked up day. It made it very hard to work between doomscrolling. I saw something on twitter: "I'm not surprised, but I am still shocked." That pretty much summed up my feelings. I mean, this is who we've been for a long time. And if it showed one thing clearly, it's that the cops are complicit. If the terrorists had been anything but white, the steps of the Capitol would run red this morning. Instead, 14 arrests. Since they were dumb enough to stream themselves, I can hope that the FBI pick up a few more, but it won't be enough. Not for high treason.
I'd like to see them invoke the 25th amendment and remove Cheeto, but I doubt they will. We'll all just have to hold our breath for 13 more days.
Pre insurrection, my meeting with my boss went very well. He was pleased with what I'd written, and told me I was one of his favorite people. Really, he didn't have any criticism. When we were discussing what qualified for meets, exceeds or does not meet standards, he kind of brushed off the partially meets and does not meet standards, saying "That's not you, anyway." Then, of course, he hit me up for a project yesterday evening, so I suppose I continue to be his favorite. It was of course, at 4:30pm, but I managed to get it done and sent back.
Also on the plus side, the Democrats get the Senate! Go Georgia! I cannot tell you how happy I am that Mitch McConnell will no longer be the Speaker. So many bills stuck on his desk can be moved forward now. The Voting Rights Act! Better stimulus checks! I know we're going to still have to be up our official's asses, but at least there's a sliver of hope.
I'll leave you with this gif set that I found on Tumblr this morning, right after the news of the Georgia runoff came in. It might be a little overly hopeful, but it helped me, so maybe it'll help y'all, too.
