We do tend to map out an outline, but it's pretty mutable. After that, it's all research, and figuring out what goes where.

The series is loosely planned to the end, but it gets re-evaluated regularly. We have the lovely poisontaster and mona1347 as sounding boards for changes in the story. Thanks to them, a character recently got a reprieve from their death sentence, for instance.
