Dec. 24th, 2025

It's Christmas Eve! And for no apparent reason, I'm up super early. Normally that means about 5am, but today, the body decided that 4:22am was an excellent time to wake me up. I'd planned to get up at 5, since I have to start work at 7:30am as we're closing early.

Yesterday was very quiet and I was bored out of my skull. Today will be worse, no doubt. I actually expect everything to be super quiet the rest of the week at work. No one is thinking about their radiology appointments right before or after Christmas. Maybe we'll get some more people who are just shocked that we can't get them in before the new year on Friday and Saturday, but beyond that, I think we're good for the week.

Aside from quiet, yesterday was pretty good. My last holiday present arrived on time, and just needs to be wrapped for my sister. It was supposed to come on Christmas Eve, but DHL took pity on my anxiety and delivered last night. They're a very pretty pair of earrings--a lab grown sapphire ringed by tiny moissanites. Thankfully, they're very small, so they're good for daily wear. I'm planning to wrap them as soon as I finish here.

I'm really glad it came in time. Now I just need to put the BIL's fudge into bags, so that I can wrap that.

Tomorrow will be the big day. Looks like I should start cooking around 10am, as the prime rib will probably take 4-5 hours to cook. It's a big hugger. I will try to remember to take pictures as I go. I'm going to do a little bit of prep tonight--maybe roasting the garlic for the mashed potatoes. I also need to clean the roasting pan and the cast iron. The cast iron especially will be getting a workout both for breakfast and dinner, with the dutch baby and yorkshire pudding I have bacon, but I think I may get some sausage to cook instead. We've been doing bacon a lot. On the other hand, I do have the good bacon. I'll consider it in the morning. That will need to be done by 9, so I can slap in the prime rib after breakfast.

Not sure when we'll do presents yet. My sister has to go to the inlaws at noon, so somewhere between 9am-12pm, we need to work that in.

We all went hella overboard this year.

My sister has less presents, but hers were more expensive. Plus she didn't really give me much guidance. I don't know if we're opening one gift tonight. We have occasionally done that, but we're making new traditions this year, so I have no idea.

Overabundance of presents aside I love our little tree. We've had it up since around Thanksgiving, and it's really been cheery and bright. When I come home, I can see it through the window, and it makes me happy.

It's decorated with a few really big balls, plus some snowflakes and icicles. The oddball ornaments are the Phantom of the Opera mask, which we got at the play. We have a cruise ship ornament, with the ship name and date of the cruise, and there's a Ghost ornament. Because no tree is complete without a little Papa V.

Next year, I'm hoping to have a Holland America ornament in addition. And since there is a Christmas shop in one of the ports, maybe something from the trip.

I know I potentially have to run my sister to the inlaws for dinner tonight, but after that, I believe I am free to sip some boozy eggnog and relax.

Okay, time for me to go forth and get this present wrapped and under the tree. Everyone have an amazing Christmas Eve!
