Dec. 3rd, 2023

What a dreary Sunday morning. It's rainy and dark and I immediately want to crawl back in bed. I probably won't, because I'm actually awake, but ugh. Oh well, coffee and gingerbread cookies will solve this, surely.

I'm going to try to get myself together to go grocery shopping at 8:30, when Aldi opens. I had put in an order last night, but it was delayed, and it got foggy as fuck around here, and I didn't want to be on the roads, so I cancelled it, figuring I'd either reorder or just go in and shop. After looking outside, I just ordered. I'll pick it up tomorrow. We have food for tonight and I'm off on Monday, so I might as well do that. I'll still have to go out in a bit to get my pills, but aside from that, I'm going to hide inside today.

Yesterday was so much fun! We left a little early and stopped at the bank for some cash, and headed downtown. Found parking with no problem and trotted across the street to the festival. We were there a little early, so they were still setting up, so we sat and waited. Once they opened, we went full ham on that food. The first thing we got was extra thick bacon on a stick. This was then dipped in one of a variety of delicious sounding sauces. We chose the char siu. It was SO good. I could have eaten another three of them. Next, we got schnitzel and latkes, which were disappointing. Jess got a cone of fries and herbed mayo to dip them in. I'd. really like to know what was in the mayo, because it was excellent. Then, we got a raclette sandwich with cornichons and dijon mustard.

If you don't know what raclette is, it's amazing. They take half a wheel of cheese, and put it on it's side, so that the flat side is up, and stick it under heating elements. The cheese gets melty and brown on top, and they pull it out, and tilt it sideways and scrape all that melty goodness right onto your sandwich. Then, they do it again. Y'all, I think they slipped some crack in that mustard or cheese, because this was so good. If the line wasn't a mile long, I could have fucked up another one. Second time, I would have gotten one with prosciutto, but for the first one, we wanted to try the purist version. We're already making plans to go back next year.

After we ate, we walked around a bit, but it was getting very crowded by then. Jess got some lavender lemonade honey tea, which we tried and was very good. On the way out, we stopped at the winter wunder bar for some warm eggnog. It said that you could add a shot of bacardi for $5, so our assumption was that it was non-alcoholic. We were so wrong. I took one tiny sip, since I was driving, and Jess had half before they admitted defeat, as they were already getting tipsy. It was really good, but wow, totally boozy.

After that, we were both starting to have some claustrophobia from the crowds, so we headed out home to relax until Jess' tattoo consult.

Almost immediately upon arriving home, the tattoo artist asked if we were interested in coming in early, so out we went.

Tiny, tiny shop, up a steep narrow flight of stairs, but the artist's work makes it worth it.. She was very sweet, and in the half hour we were there, she looked at the reference and redrew it so that it was tattooable, without losing detail. Once it was approved by Jess, she gave us a price that seemed exceptionally reasonable and we put a deposit down, and headed home (stopping at the Japanese dessert place to grab a milk cap cake and a crepe cake slice.)

It was way more than we normally do on a Saturday, and I was exhausted by 6pm. Got in bed early and slept like a baby until about 7, which seems to be my body's version of sleeping late.

Today, aside from a pharmacy trip, I have nothing planned. Just going to take it easy and watch dad.

Everyone have an amazing Sunday!
