Dec. 2nd, 2023

It's Saturday!! Yay! Today, provided that Jess is feeling good, we shall go to the German Christmas Village downtown! Not looking forward to the parking, but aside from that, it should be fun. I just need to stop somewhere and get some cash, because I don't know if all the vendors will take a card. I know the main food ones do, but I'm not sure about the rest. So, I'll take a bit of cash with me in case anything leaps out that we must have.

Since I'm not a huge Christmas person (not really my holiday), I will probably not be getting any of the little handmade German ornaments or the like, but they have some other vendors like one called "Honey Tea." This could be very relevant to Jess' interests, and I want them to have nice things.

I had some cookies with my coffee, but that'll probably be all I eat before noon when the festival starts. Thanks to Rybelsus, I tend to fill up quickly when I eat, so I'm going to save every bit of room for that schnitzel and latkes.

It's supposed to be cloudy and 60ish today, so we won't freeze, which is of the good. Downside, it may be crowded. But we're just going to get there a little bit early, and hope that it doesn't pick up too much until sundown, when the Christmas lights come on, by which time we will most likely be gone.

Work continues to be frustrating. I really have improved. Yesterday, I felt like I did really well with just a few mess ups, but my score stubbornly refuses to budge. Also, I'm getting marked low on things that were in no way covered in the academy. Like, apparently, funeral homes call to request a traffic detail to get the procession across a busy roadway? No, sorry. Somehow no one explained that this was something that we would do! I had to be guided through it, so I got a 1 on that call. Or "hey, my car broke down on the side of the road, I'm running up the street to hook up the battery to the charger I have and will be back in an hour. Can you tell the cops that it's not abandoned?" Again, not covered at all, and I don't think a 1 was warranted, because seriously, the fuck?

But with the regular calls, I do pretty well, yet I'm still getting scored a 2 because I gave the post dispatch instructions out of order, or omitted one that I didn't think was relevant (but my trainer did).

I have my progress meeting on Tuesday, so we'll see how that goes. I really feel that if I can just get through the next two weeks til night shift, my scores will magically improve with another trainer. Or maybe I'm wrong and they'll be hardasses, too. Just one day, I'd like to sit with someone else, and see what they make of me.

(Also, why are we still coding marijuana as a controlled dangerous substance call?) I went with suspicious vehicle, but I also considered DUI, since they were in a car, but nooo, apparently it was supposed to be CDS. Go fucking figure.

Ah well, for now, I have three glorious days to relax and be bored. I enjoy having three days off, but it's a little weird, too. The constantly rotating shift makes it tough to figure out what day of the week it is. I suppose as long as I remember whether it's a work day or not, I'm good. I do have some trainings to do tomorrow. Technically, we're supposed to do them at work, but the set up is just not very good for that. I'll sit in the office and use my headphones to do them. They're nothing exciting, just continuing education. I believe the topics are back pain and grass/vegetation fire.

Okay, time for me to consider more coffee and/or pants. Everyone have a beautiful Saturday!!
