About two weeks ago, I was teasing Jess that we should do a SPN convention up here in Baltimore. She basically told me I was insane, but the idea kinda stuck. Then, yesterday, we went to the Hunt Valley Marriott for the breakfast buffet, and the thought came up again.

The Marriott is a convention hotel with a shitload of rooms, and awesome event planners. It's been the site for many a Star Trek Con, and we were sitting there discussing how cool the hotel would be for a SPN convention.

So, with the thought in the back of our heads, here's a poll:

Feel free to pimp it far and wide!

A con 45 minutes from my house? That would be awesome! If you decide to go through with it, I'd happy to do grunt work--just not be in charge :)

I know - a Con in Maryland, an hour from my house, I'd be flipping crazy not to help get this going any way I can.

Let me know - I'm on board to help :)

Oh, wow, that would be so awesome! Just a short train ride!

I said no on the planning just because I know the reality is that I tend to suck at things like that. I'm sorry about that.

I only said no with the planning b/c I'd suck at it. But I am willing to be a sounding board!

I would love to see a Supernatural Con. I think that the Baltimore area would be an excellent location.

How much help I could throw in and whether or not I could come will depend on a whole host of factors related to work and budget.

My one piece of con advice is to make sure that whenever you schedule it, it doesn't conflict--either date wise or real people budget wise--by being too close to any springtime slash cons. I'm sure that con.txt isn't happening this year, but I don't know what the status of Connexions is for next year, but my recollection is that it's an April time con.

Wiscon, the big feminist Sci Fi convention is Memorial Day weekend, IIRC, so that feels more like summer would work than spring, since Feb. is Escapade, the big West Coast So Cal slash con, and you don't want to be competing with that.

(two cents worth from ivy, who apparently knows more about fannish convention schedules than she knew she did.)

Okay, I'm an idiot who can't count. that should read since we're in 2007, that Connexions was on the board for 2007, last I heard (but an east coast spring slash con is outside of my budget this year, so that's based on what I heard at Con.txt last year).

You'd need to find out what the 2008 Con.txt/Connnexions schedule would be if you wanted to avoid running into conflicts with those.

Connexions 2007 has been canceled though it will allegedly return next year. Con*Txt, last I heard, was still scheduled for June 2008.

And while Media*West is in Michigan, a *lot* of people go, that's Memorial Day weekend too so probably not a good idea to plan it around then.

And just so I make only one post instead of several...

hi beanside!

As for Baltimore, I didn't answer the poll as to helping out or not - I don't have a hell of a lot of time to plan but I can try and help with things. Oh and there's also a hotel in Baltimore I can tell you to definitely avoid at all costs.

Woo! An SPN con only a 5 hour drive from where I live! And somewhere I've been before, so its not a completely strange area. And not until next year when I might actually have money! *g*

I'm there!

This is fantastic! I am about to start working in Hunt Valley, and plan on moving to the area (okay, just up 83 in York County) within the next 6 months or so. I would be SO excited to be involved in a fangathering so close by. Keep me posted.

I worked in Baltimore as an event planner for a while. If you need anything, please holler. I'm still more-or-less local down in DC and have some contacts.

I live in Bmore so this would be fantastic. I would be willing to help when/where I can but my organizational skills leave a lot to be desired. Just point me in the right direction!!

I'll be there!

I'd be spending all my time in the dealer's room offering our dozens of Supernatural zines to all the attendees, so I couldn't really help run a panel, but if there's anything I can do, let me know.

February is a bad month because that's when it tends to snow buckets (Snow Con, er, Farpoint, anyone?), and come March, there's Revelcon in Houston, then Eyecon in Florida (Jared's going to be at this one, and I hear they're courting Jensen)and Tribal Forces in Philly in April, MediaWest in May, nothing in June, Shore Leave in July, nothing in August, September or October, BASCon in San Fran in November, and SHarecon is still trying to decide when they're going to place their con.

So, I'd shoot for June, August,September or October, so you don't conflict with any other major cons.

But *whenever* you plan the con, I'll be there with my zines, if I have to die trying!
