And it's already Monday again. Ew. I definitely could have slept a bit later. I got a relatively good night's sleep, save getting up around 3am to give the cat a can of food. Still, I was able to sleep until about 5:40, which was a nice switch from the last couple of days.
Yesterday was busy with cleaning and cooking. We had decided that Sunday will be cleaning day, so we spent most of the day doing that. The bathroom got the business first, with both of us squeezing int here and going to town. The toilet has been scrubbed, the giant mirror has been cleaned and the tub has been wiped down and the cabinet top and ceiling has been dusted.
After that, I started working on prepping dinner. I made a big pot of french onion soup, which was soup. So much chopping! By the time I finished, my back was aching. Jess kindly baby sat the onions for a while so they could carmelize while I sat, then it was back to add in the rest of the the ingredients and let it simmer for a bit. I had to improvise a couple of the ingredients, but it turned out really well. Very tasty.
While it simmered, we built my sister's makeup table/desk. She got a makeup mirror for Christmas and was excited to have somewhere to do her makeup in the morning.
The grocery people left out our order for yeast, so I was not able to bake a baguette to put in the soup, so I made a simple quick bread. It wasn't as good as yeast bread, but it worked okay. It was a little doughy, but not bad.
We had dinner a little bit early, and then Jess kindly cleaned the kitchen. After that, I mopped it and cleaned up the bit of accumulated debris.
Then, it was onto the living room where I vacuumed and picked up a bit. Then, I went to bed, because I was exhausted. All in all, I felt good about the day.
The house had gotten so bad, bordering on hoarding that I'm a bit paranoid about the apartment. It will not get that bad. I will make certain of it. I want my home to be clean, and inviting. I want it to show that we care about how we live.
The house was a combination of 50 years of clutter and accumulated dirt, and people who were so exhausted from taking care of Dad that they didn't have the energy to fix it.
I've noticed a big change in my overall allergy symptoms since moving. I'm using my inhaler way less, and am less stuffy. I may need to get some saline spray, because it's a little dry in here.
Today, I'm going to step back and let Jess cook for a change. I've kind of been monopolizing the kitchen, but I've been enjoying making all sorts of good food. I like providing nutritious food for my family. It makes me happy.
Okay, I suppose it's time for me to get my ass in gear and get ready for work. Everyone have the best Monday that you can!
