Good morning on an already disgustingly hot Saturday! It's supposed to get up to 96 degrees, ew. And, unfortunately, I do have to go out in it. I meant to do it yesterday, but in the excitement of new game, I totally forgot. Dad had requested some sausage from the Amish market, so I guess that's where I'm heading today. I will have my second cup of coffee and get my ass together early. We also need to pickup some more RSO from the dispensary for Jess. Then, we have MotW this afternoon, yay!

I was moderately productive despite myself yesterday. I went and got my hair cut. It's back to a short pixie cut, which makes me happy. I really like my lady barber (that's the name of her shop, "Sierra the Lady Barber"), even though it's only my second time going to her. The shop has a progress Pride flag in the window year round, and the other barber in the shop is trans. Best of all, she doesn't feel the need to chatter incessantly during the haircut. We talk some, but I don't have to put on the neurotypical performance, which is nice. And best of all, thirty minutes later, I'm done and out the door with a haircut I like.

Aside from that, most of my day was spent making sure everything for the game was prepped. I ended up writing about 2k of introduction, because I didn't love any of the plot hooks as written, so I borrowed a few elements and went from there. The one thing I didn't actually think about was that I then had to read those 2k words, out loud. My voice is a little bit raspy today. It'll be fine for game with the application of some hot drinks and maybe a lemonade from the Amish market.

So, last night, we started Curse of Strahd. It's a 6 year old game, so I have no worries about spoilers, so I'll be recapping, because it helps me to fix the details in my mind.

We opened with our erstwhile heroes at the Duchess of Morwen's Liar's Night Ball on a cool, fall night where tendrils of low-lying mist played along the ground. The butler introduced the characters, including a hexblade warlock, a wizard, a cleric, a monk,a fighter, a barbarian, a rogue and a bard. (there will be another player, a paladin, joining us for the second game, but she couldn't make this date.) The ball was in full swing, food and drink flowing freely. Some had come for the food, some had whispers of their enemy being at the ball, and some had heard that there were dark creatures infiltrating. Those last whispers proved to be true, as two werewolves revealed themselves!

The party wasted no time in jumping into action. Spells were cast! Weapons were drawn! Punches were thrown. A lot of nat 1s were rolled, so the fight was a little bit harder than expected, but in the end, the heroes emerged victorious!

A mysterious figure came to them in the aftermath, asking for their help. Their master had fallen under a dreadful curse, and they had been searching for heroes who could help free him. The party agreed to hear him out, and went to the camp of the Vistani people. There, they learned about the land Barovia, and the Devil Strahd who was a tyrant over the land. The Vistani leader, Madame Eva would be able to tell them more.

They reluctantly agreed, and headed in the direction the man told them to go. The mists enveloped them, and suddenly, they weren't on the well worn road back to town. They were in a deep forest. They found another camp of Vistani. They checked it out, and found Madame Eva in the camp. She invited them to stay the night, and agreed to do a tarokka (tarot) reading for them the next morning before they set out. In the night, she came to each of them, handing out magical items to help them on their way.

It told them in the vaguest terms where they could find various artifacts that would help them defeat Strahd. The group headed out for the capital city of Barovia, confusingly named Barovia. Along the way, they were attacked by a group of direwolves. The fight was short and brutal, and the cleric got pretty badly injured, but they prevailed!

After the fight, a slow clapping came from all around them, and Strahd himself appeared before them. He told them that they were amusing, and he had decided to let them live. They threw spells and arrows and rocks at him, but none seemed to harm him. The cleric made a Wisdom Saving throw. The DM said. "Interesting, thank you." People were worried. After a few minutes of condescension, Strahd turned to a cloud of bats and departed. We ended the session there, and with the majority of the party deciding that Strahd was the ultimate fuckboi. The cleric was a little into it, truth be told.

We set up a date in 3 weeks, and fortunately the date worked for our paladin, yay!

Okay, time to go make more coffee and get my ass in gear. Have a lovely Saturday everyone. Stay cool!
