4 days to D&D! The Roll20 countdown is like a little hit of dopamine every morning. It says "Today may suck, but in just a few days, there will be D&D! We're gearing up for my sister to leave on Friday for vacation, and for us to be on Dad Duty for four full days. I want her to go have fun. It's only fair, since we got our vacation in May, but I really don't feel like being an adult for four days. Plus, I'll be sleeping upstairs with the puppy, which means that I won't be sleeping great. I don't like not having Jess next to me, but my sister's bed is a twin. Oh well. I hope my sister enjoys her music festival. It wouldn't be my thing, but hopefully she has a good time.
We have one game this weekend, on Saturday afternoon. We'll get Dad all set up before game time with a drink, snacks, and make sure he's all good. Then, after about an hour and a half, we'll take a 20 minute break to feed him dinner, and make sure he's all set again. The game will probably only go for another hour and a half, so it should work out well. Normally, we don't have any games while my sister is away, but if we do, it's definitely better to do it on Saturday afternoon.
Yesterday took roughly forever. I was having massive anxiety, especially in the morning/early afternoon. I ended up taking 1/4 of a valium to settle down and not have the urge to claw all the skin off my arms. I had a little bit of work to do, but it was sporadic. I spent most of the day on Discord and TikTok on my phone.
Today, I'm not sure if I'll have work to do or not. I'm not sure if the transport companies were working yesterday, so I'll have to see if they actually send the markets in. If not, it's going to be a loooong day.
We had fireworks til about 11 again, which wasn't as bad as I was expecting for the 4th. They had some very pretty ones down the street that I could see from our bathroom window. I was still cranky about the noise freaking out my dog, but I did enjoy the view.
We're down to 215 days til Disney. It's not bad, since we started at 320. Still too far away, though. It's hard to sustain the same level of excitement, but I do still go on the website and look at our reservations now and then, just to remind myself.
In the meantime, D&D is my coping mechanism. I prep during the week and play on the weekend, and it makes me happy. The Saturday game is the beginning of The Lost Mine of Phandelver. I've read through the module twice, and made some needed adjustments. I have one more monster to replace, but that shouldn't be a problem. It seems to be a chill, easy module to run. It's straightforward and has plenty of plot hooks to keep my players busy. The only downside is that it's an older, very popular module, so I'm sure a goodly chunk of my players know the basic plotline. I trust that they can keep from meta gaming, but hopefully, I'll come up with a few things to change it up and keep it interesting.
Okay, going to go get my ass in gear now. Have a good Tuesday everyone!
