Mondays are annoying. I didn't want to get up this morning, but I did. Yesterday, I ended up leaving early to go lay down because my back was really pissed off and sitting in my work chair was making it worse. We'll see how today is. It's my inbox day, so I will try.
I spent most of yesterday napping off and on thanks to the muscle relaxants. I think today I'm going to try to take half a pill today and see if that's enough to take the edge off while keeping me functional.
I forgot to mention that I've managed to finish two books in the last week! First up was Nettle and Bone by T.Kingfisher. I can always count on her for a fucked up fairy tale and this was no exception. It was an easy read with practical characters trying to do the impossible. I can also count on the fact that halfway through the book, I'll be looking at the two leads going "Now kiss!" If you have a few spare hours, I highly recommend it. Fair warning, it's T.Kingfisher (aka Ursula Vernon) so there are some unsettling elements in it, including one particular one scene with some impressive body/tooth related horror. There's also spousal abuse (off screen, but a driving theme). Still, I devoured it in one sitting, and I'm hopeful for more in this world.
My second book was The Kaiju Preservation Society by John Scalzi. This was the equivalent of a popcorn movie given book form. It's not going to change anyone's life, but it was fun. Within the first two chapters, it made me giggle out loud, which is a good indicator that I'm going to enjoy it. Also recommended.
I'm pretty picky about what I'll bother reading. Life is stressful enough, the world is horrifying enough, so I read for fun, not really deep and meaningful. If I recommend something, it's because I had a good time with it. Take from that what you will. I'm very shallow in my entertainment.
The plus side to it being Monday is that there's only four days til D&D! I cannot wait. I have no idea where my players are going to take me next. I think they're going to do a particular side quest, but that may change. There's a handful of side quests that they could go for, or who knows, I might throw something completely different at them! They've got plenty of enemies that could throw a wrench into their plans.
Okay, time for me to take some pills and get myself ready for work. Have the best Monday possible!
