Car ownership, while necessary, is fucking expensive. I sent my car in for new tires and an oil change and of course, they found 3 other things wrong with it. As a result, the tax refund is now gone. *sigh* It was nice having money while it lasted. And I got some stuff that really needed to be done done. And it's an older car, so it's going to start costing money, so it's not really a shock. I'll try to pick it up today. I already paid, so it should only take a couple of minutes, so maybe I can do it on my lunch break. If not, they're open til 7 on Monday, I can slip over after work, since they're around the corner. When the stimulus checks come in, the rear brakes need to be done, so that'll eat up most of that. My new work chair may have to wait a while.
Got to the Amish market, and bought some meats. I was weak and bought the prime rib steaks. They just looked so pretty! I think we'll probably have them tonight. Add to that, some smoked cheeses and some baked goods, and it was a pretty good haul. They had what they called a "fruit pizza" which was basically a fruit tart on a shortbread cookie. So fucking good. I will definitely get more than two of them next time. The chocolate whoopie pies and peanut butter cookies were a hit, so that was good.
Aside from that and taking in the car, we didn't do a whole lot yesterday. We wanted to get back and be ready for Monster of the Week.
Monster of the Week was as always a lot of fun. We've been doing this for nine(!) sessions now, so the group is comfortable with each other. At least three of them, I know outside of the game (and of course, I'm married to one), but I've come to consider the other two friends as well. I love D&D, but my MotW crew will probably always be my favorite.
In this installment, the hunters went to investigate cow mutilations on a dairy farm...owned by a relative of the mob family that they're in deep with. It was quickly discovered that the creatures attacking the cows were shadow things about the size of an Irish Wolfhound. They were quickly dubbed shadow doggos, and were apparently easily banishable. (seriously, the rolls last night were insanely good overall). However, they were summoned by a person, who was discovered to be their old antagonist Adessi, a powerful sorcerer. They attempted to summon her for a showdown, but she escaped, and went to lick her wounds. Follow up attempts to summon her failed! The chaos gremlins were left empty handed, with a new nemesis to boot!
It seemed to go well, even though this was my first homebrew game, that I wrote from start to finish. We set up for two weeks, so I'm debating the next game already.
Back to work today! I had a really good weekend, so I'm okay with it.
