It has been getting cold in Maryland, so I believe I shall be calling the nice HVAC people again. We have a big-ass space heater that keeps it from getting too bad, but it would be nice to have actual central heating again. (And hot water! Hot water that doesn't require heating it in an electric kettle would be awesome. An endless shower!)

Took half a day off yesterday for Dad's televisit with his primary care doctor. He's on pain meds for his arthritis, and has to have visits each month to get refills. I don't know how useful the visits are, seeing as he's deaf as hell, and I do all the talking. We have a blood pressure monitor, so I guess she gets that?

I think I felt that way about my televisits while I had Covid, too. It was nice that my doctor wanted to monitor me, but I'm not sure how helpful they were. I guess it was nice not to feel alone? Honestly, that month is such a blur of fever and coughing, I don't really remember how I felt about it at the time.

So, I'm starting another TTRPG, this one straight Dungeons and Dragons. Jess found me a purloined PDF copy of the player's handbook, so I'm reading through that, and I'll probably pick up the Dungeon Master's guide when I get paid. We're aiming for sometime after the first of the year to play, as a lot of the same players are in this as are in my MotW game and I know they're all busy for the next three weeks, and then there are the holidays. Several other people have expressed interest as well, so it looks like it may be a fairly big crew. Hopefully, my DM style will work for them. I'm planning somewhere between Alex from Rusty Quill gaming and Griffin McElroy from the Adventure Zone. I don't have the patience for some of the minutia of D&D--we probably won't spend a ton of time on getting spell components and buying provisions. The players will still have to purchase it, but we won't waste too much game time on it, I don't think. Hopefully, it goes well.

I feel the same about televisits; I don't think they're completely worthless, especially if you need to talk to your doctor (and in that case, I wish doctors were more available to answer simple questions or issues you might have; I love that my neuro has given me his email address for stuff like that and I don't abuse the privilege) but in terms of assessing physicality, it's pretty useless? Especially if you don't KNOW what's wrong, or can't articulate it.

I'm very excited about the D&D game.

I hope the HVAC folks are responsive - it seems like it's been far too long that you've been fighting to get the heat on for winter!

I seriously question whether we are capable of playing "straight Dungeons and Dragons"
Or straight anything, really ;)
