beansideDammit. Why must Shawn be so...Shawn-ish. Why must he still look good? Why, why, why?!? I don't need wrestling musi. Don't want them. Especially not that one.
Let me explain. I was 13 when my family got cable. Suddenly, I was introduced to the wonders of MTV. Way cool. I solidified my Duran Duran obsession, and found a new one, courtesy of USA network, which was showing WWF programming.
About a year later, they added a new channel. HTS, Home Team Sports. It was mostly there to show our local teams, the Orioles, the Capitals, the Bullets, the Redskins. But that left a lot of open programming. So, they picked up other shows, too.
World Class Legends of Wrestling was one of the first ones. I met the a lot of now-dead stars. The ill-fated Von Erich family, Chris Adams, Gino Hernandez,Terry Gordy. I also met some who still are around, Terry Taylor, Kevin Von Erich, Michael Hayes, and my first dyke crush, Baby Doll.
When that show was successful, they added another show. It was the weekly AWA show.
It sucked. Horribly.
But, there was this tag team. They were called the Midnight Rockers, and the one member, by 80's standards, was just...mrrow. His name was Shawn Michaels.
Years have passed since then, but when I see that smile...I'm still fourteen, sitting way too close to the television, suffering through all the crap matches, just to wait for the tag team main event.
And that is why no matter how far I bury my wrestling muses, even if I can kill off all the others, Shawn will remain. Because, no matter where I go, or how far I run, somewhere, that fourteen year old is still there.
So, I guess I'll be writing fic soon.
