One day, I will recover from Wincon. Today, is not that day.

On the plus side, I dropped off some of the donated goods at the Family Crisis Center. It's a very small shelter, that works out of an apartment complex. They were very happy for the check and some of the knitty things. I'll be dropping off some more knitty things to the other shelter. As Jess said, this one is in a crappy area, and all that, but she was okay until we went into the children's activity center, where the kids stay until Mom gets home from work. It's this tiny room with a table, some games, a couple computers, and homework space. It just broke our hearts. Needless to say, they will put the money and knitted goods to some good use.

*snore* Crap, I don't want to deal with people. Ew.

Would they take donations of games? I have a whole box of board games that I was thinking of finding a new home for. Plus a case of Harry Potter LEGO kits... If I sent them home with Den, he could get them to you and you could donate them to the center?

I'm pretty sure they'll take whatever they can get!

And I don't have any problem taking stuff down to them. It's an easy drive.

I realized when packing to leave, I'd been so busy having a blast with awesome fangirls, I'd forgotten to make sure my stuff for the shelter got to you.

Can I mail it to you?

Yes, please (if you don't mind me having it). I'm meredevachon on gmail; you can send it there.

Do you think they'd like some kids' books-maybe those little board books or picture books? (What kind of ages are we talking, here?) That's kind of my thing this year...or if there's something more practical I could send you that you'd prefer, suggest it, please.

I've got your address, I just don't have *your* last name (so everything ends up addressed to Jess, which is fine, I'm sure; but I don't want to snub you!).

I think they'd take anything. I do know that they have several infants, and some toddlers. Beyond that? Not sure.

Ok, I'll see what I can do. It might not be soon, but as able. :)

FYI, a friend of the family started a 'program' she calls "Twice Given" at the nursery school she used to run (when she retired, she moved it to her church). Basically, folks pass on any 'white elephant'-type gifts they receive (or that they've bought and decided not to give) to her, and then she puts them out on tables or whatever and kids from disadvantaged families come and choose Xmas presents from these for their family members. The point is to let the kids feel the joy of giving even though they don't have the money to buy gifts. If the shelter is in an apt complex, the folks at the complex might be willing to contribute to such a program for the families that the shelter serves. Mrs Putnam also takes knitted hats etc, which is why your post made me think of it. I can give you her email address; email me if you want it.

I do believe that lack of recovery is the sign of either a really good or really bad party. Hope it was the former in this case.
