One day, I will recover from Wincon. Today, is not that day.

On the plus side, I dropped off some of the donated goods at the Family Crisis Center. It's a very small shelter, that works out of an apartment complex. They were very happy for the check and some of the knitty things. I'll be dropping off some more knitty things to the other shelter. As Jess said, this one is in a crappy area, and all that, but she was okay until we went into the children's activity center, where the kids stay until Mom gets home from work. It's this tiny room with a table, some games, a couple computers, and homework space. It just broke our hearts. Needless to say, they will put the money and knitted goods to some good use.

*snore* Crap, I don't want to deal with people. Ew.

FYI, a friend of the family started a 'program' she calls "Twice Given" at the nursery school she used to run (when she retired, she moved it to her church). Basically, folks pass on any 'white elephant'-type gifts they receive (or that they've bought and decided not to give) to her, and then she puts them out on tables or whatever and kids from disadvantaged families come and choose Xmas presents from these for their family members. The point is to let the kids feel the joy of giving even though they don't have the money to buy gifts. If the shelter is in an apt complex, the folks at the complex might be willing to contribute to such a program for the families that the shelter serves. Mrs Putnam also takes knitted hats etc, which is why your post made me think of it. I can give you her email address; email me if you want it.
