My day off and I'm up by 7:30. Can't even blame the cat this time. She didn't have anything to do with it for a change. I just was awake. Oh well.
Yesterday was a busy day as Fridays go. Dad had two home health visits (PT and Home Health Aid) and I had a haircut. Unfortunately, my back was so bad that I wasn't really a help with the home health visits. For PT, I sat in the office and kept Yoda company. For the aid, I had already left to go get my haircut when she was arriving.
My "Lady Barber" as she calls herself, does a lovely job on short hair. I now look like the dykeiest dyke who ever dyked a dyke. It's short on the sides and in back with a slightly longer top, that's still short enough to stand up a little on it's way to sweeping to the side. I really like it. After that, I did basically nothing until we went to dinner.
Dinner was very nice. There's a cajun/seafood pot/hibachi place not too far away. They're never busy, so they'll either be short lived, or they're. a money laundering front. Honestly, the food is good enough that I'm hoping for the latter. It was a very pleasant dinner, with just us in the dining room. We talked about going out for dessert, but we were a little too full, and decided that if we waited, we'd have an excuse to go out tonight, too.
Today, my sister has a haircut followed by a birthday party, so the majority of our day will be dad-watching. I'm wondering if we could sneak out for breakfast at 10, and be back for her haircut at noon. I really kind of want huevos con chorizo. Weirdly, I got a check from Enterprise Rent a Car for $120. I don't know if this is something they overcharged me for for the rental in February, or if it's something from buying the Soul in July? I have absolutely no clue. But that's a couple of extra $$ that I can definitely use.
We're currently debating between two dessert places. One has better desserts, but bad parking. The other has some interesting looking deserts, and probably good parking(though I've never been there). We'll see which one we end up going to. Both would be good, I'm sure.
I have come to the regretful and somewhat resentful conclusion that we're not going to be able to go to CONfab in Chicago this October. We might be able to work an overnight trip, but with Dad as he is, we just cannot be gone for longer than that. He's a 2 person job. I'm thinking about doing an overnight trip in the fall/winter, but I think that's as good as we're going to get for the moment. I resent the hell out of it, but it's just how things are right now. A couple of months ago, I was thinking it wouldn't be a problem by then, because he was doing so poorly. But that last round of "just in case" antibiotics seem to have done the trick.
We've been getting him up pretty much every day, which has been an adventure. The Hoyer lift is not particularly easy to use. It takes two of us to get him into the wheelchair and it is not easy on the back and shoulders. Yesterday we got him into the chair really well, so we took him for a trip tot he living room and sat him out there for a little while. He got to see my car through the front door. It didn't last long. After 20 minutes, he was ready to go back to bed, but it was something.
Okay, time to go forth and think about getting myself together. Everyone have a wonderful Saturday!
