It's Tuesday! Yesterday was actually surprisingly busy, and a goodly number were total dickslaps about it. It hit later than expected, but the "I need it before January 1st" derby has begun. I was about ready to reach through the screen and smack someone. Your lack of planning is not my emergency. You've had these orders for 3 months, and you're calling me 7 days before your doctor's appt, and demanding to be seen? Fuck no. I've got actual STAT patients...who are also being bitchy. I called one with a new devastating diagnosis, and they were like "no, I want to wait til after Christmas. Are you sure about that, my dude? I would think time was kinda of the essence? Whatever, it's not my choice. Had you come in either of the days, you could probably have started treatment before the new year. Oh well. Patients can be frustrating.
I made Stroganoff last night. It turned out well, good flavor, but it didn't thicken the way I needed it to. Oh well, I'll try again soon, because everyone loves that recipe, and it's not terribly difficult. Today, we shall have pre-made Lobster Mac and Cheese from Sam's Club. Tomorrow, Jess may make their famous jambalaya. Then on Christmas, cradled rib roast, and then we shall have leftovers til the end of time. lol.
In just 10 days, we shall have a weekend in Philly, which I'm looking forward to. We're going to the zoo, and generally going to have some fun and good food. Then, we don't have anything planned until April, at which point we're going to go to NYC for a day. After that, it's almost cruise time. As of today, we're sitting at 135 days.
Of all the things on the cruise, I'm looking forward to the actual cruise most of all. Getting to see Alaska is bonus fries, but the boat and the trip are what I'm in it for. This trip is going to be about pampering. We're going to relax and let people do for us. Eat when and what we feel like eating, relax on our balcony with hot cocoa and pastries while we look at the glaciers. Maybe some delicious pea soup to warm us up.
There's also certainly plenty of things to do. Trivia, bingo, game shows. I don't know how much of that I'll be doing. Definitely some of the presentations. They have nature shows, and one about how the city on the sea runs. That's usually on the last day. Somewhere in there we'll have our vow renewal. I'm hoping on the first sea day, since we don't have a thing planned. But we'll work with whatever they offer us.
I continue to look on various sites for information and reviews of our ship and itinerary. One thing we discovered is that we're too early in the season for any of the religious groups to take. A lot of cruises are going to be somewhat co-opted by right wing groups, but ours seems clear according to the website that follows such things.
It's apparently an increasing problem on most cruises, but Holland seems to be worse than most. Every single sailing after ours had a group on board. And of course, as a group, they get preferential treatment, which is shitty.
I know they can't really refuse passage if they want to make money, but goddamn, that sucks.
I've got one Christmas present outstanding, and I am hopiing it comes today. The DHL rep said it would go out today, but we'll see. Right now, it's showing "on hold." Which is why I called. If it's not on a bus by 9, I'll call at 10am on my break.
Okay, time for me to get myself together. Everyone have the best Tuesday!
