Well, had a wonderful day off yesterday. It was a beautiful day out, sunny and warm, without being humid or ungodly hot. The perfect day to play.
First, we did some shopping, and got gas. Then, it was back home to grill dinner. We made kabobs out of bacon-wrapped shrimp, and brushed them with barbecue sauce. Mmm... Ran out of bacon, so brushed the rest of the shrimp in spicy peanut Thai sauce. Also Mmmm...
After that, it was about four, so we headed up to The Beaver Dam Swim Club.
Oh, so fucking cool.
It's an old limestone quarry, where they hit an underground spring. For years, they pumped the water out, but eventually, it got to be too much work, I guess, so it filled in. The average depth of water is between 40-50 feet, which means that you can dive or jump without fear of getting hurt. There's also a pool on site for the kids, and an area of the quarry that's marked off with a railing as goring from only two to five feet deep.
We found that if you swam across the narrower area, there were limestone rocks on the other side that you could kind of sit on and sun yourself. It has a great view of the Tarzan rope swing, which is very cool looking. You start from about 15 feet above the water on a platform, and swing out about 30 feet before you drop. If you've got some decent weight, you can probably get about 15-20 feet off the water. Very cool looking. Also, they have a high dock that you can jump off of, about 8 feet above the water, and some cliffs that reach around ten feet that are diveable.
We had such a blast, but damn, today I am paying. So sore. But it's loosening up a little as the morning goes on.
Still...
If we have a free weekend in August, I'd love to consider planning a coven outing up there. Jess and my first thought upon seeing the Tarzan swing was "Oooh, Sal and Den would have a blast!" This was quickly followed by "Oooh, Sonya could bring the kids!" It would be such fun, we could cook out and all.
So, once we get through Lammas, I might start poking on this one. For now, I'm going to pop some Advil and relax.
