Ugh, I hate my Thursday mornings. Up at 5:30, since I have to leave a bit early to get to work at a reasonable time. I have ordered my coffee, breakfast and lunch from Panera, so that's done.
My coworker M texted me that she's going to be out today (no real shock there) so I'm on delivery updates, whoo. I spent most of yesterday trying to train another coworker on how to do things, and I'm not sure she's getting it. We'll see. I will probably not try to train her while I'm in the office and actually doing updates, so I'll have a week to figure out what I can do to make the various excel files we use easier to differentiate, since that seems to be a big stumbling point.
My coworker J is also out, so I'll have his markets. At least A. Will be in, so I'll have someone to talk to.
We continue not to hear back from the rehab social worker about a bed and sit/stand device. We finally cracked last night and put in an order for a rental. It's expensive and that sucks, but we need something. I'm deeply frustrated and freaked out about this. I put in the order after the durable medical was closed, so I need to call this morning, and see when they can deliver. It's just nerve wracking.
Tomorrow, we have the Frostmaiden game. I have wonderful, terrible things planned that I'm looking forward to. Then, on Saturday, Mad Mage. We're still in the early parts of that, so I'm interested to see what it'll become. Sunday, depending on Dad, we have Storm Lord's Thunder. I suspect the latter is going to end up cancelled, but we shall see.
We were very chatty in the Frostmaiden Discord yesterday. I dropped a few bits about things I've added (I've added a lot) and the overall tone of the module, vs the game that I'm running. Frostmaiden is written as a survival horror game. I on the other hand run it like the Indiana Jones theme is playing in the background. We started playing during the pandemic, in January of 2021. The game as written is grim, and dark, and aside from killing the main baddie, there's nothing that the players can do that will actually make any difference in the villager's lives. The themes of helplessness and corrupt governments carry through the whole module. No one fucking wanted that in 2021! So, i did some jailbreaking of the module to make it more hopeful, and to give the players actual victories.
For instance, there's a dragon that an evil mastermind is setting loose on the Ten Towns. As written, the players can't get to it until it's destroyed over half of the towns, and then the remaining people will starve or freeze to death. Jebus, how depressing can you get? Instead, I gave them an ally who had the fly spell. They were able to catch the dragon, I allowed the paladin to cast darkness on it's head, dropping it to the ground, since it couldn't see to fly, and they had a knock down drag out fight and were victorious. They felt good about themselves, the towns were saved, and they became the Heroes of Easthaven. Much more satisfying
Okay, my battery is at 7% so I'm going to hop off and put my computer on to charge. Everyone have a wonderful Thursday!
