beansideI have no idea why I was fully awake at 7am. It makes no sense whatsoever, but here I am. So, I'm sitting here sipping on my coffee and contemplating my day. CONfab has finally arrived, so I'm going to be doing that most of the day. First up, I'll be doing two hours as backup con comm, which I believe basically means answering any questions the main person doesn't get to. Since there's hardly ever anything to be done, I believe I'll mostly be doing nothing.
It's strange attending a fandom con when you're only nominally in fandom. Most of the panels don't really appeal to me, though I may try the one about how to make bracelets. I'm the zoom mod for the fannish community projects, so I'll be in that one, and then there's the one that I'm actually doing. But my real fandom is 100% TTRPGs. Someone needs to create a Fandom TTRPG con. I'd totally be there for that. Hell, I'd be on con comm for it.
So far, no one has signed up for Monster of the Week tomorrow. Anxiety is not happy about that. I have a feeling I'm going to be doing nothing tomorrow afternoon, but that's okay. I have my group, and they're more than good enough for me.
We played Call of Cthulhu for the first time last night, and it went pretty well. I had to pause to look up the rules a couple of times, but otherwise, it went well. It's a heavy role play game, not at all combat focused. You only have about 13 hit points, and some weapons can wipe that out in a single hit, so the best idea is to run rather than fight. Everyone seemed to have fun, and we're talking about doing more pickup games in the system, so that's cool.
The one thing I'm going to have to get good with is my own feelings about historical bigotry. It's set in the 20's and some of the PCs are characters of color. I found myself being squeamish about having characters display too many "isms." I want players to have fun, so it'll be a tough balance to hold. I will figure it out, but it's definitely something I'm going to have to get more comfortable with.
Okay, I have imbibed coffee and now I need to consider putting pants on. I don't plan to be on camera for Zoom, but we'll see. Everyone have a wonderful Saturday!
