Friday!!! Going to relax, then go see Dad, then I'm going to play D&D tonight and it's going to be awesome.
I was concerned that this section of the game was going to be kind of boring for some of my players, because there wasn't really any combat, but I found an add on at DM's Guild that expands on the source material, complete with maps and monsters, which should fix some of that. I feel like when they got to this section in the module, they kind of gave up. There's a couple of big boss fights at the end of the section, but a long stretch of "You find this, you find that" in the middle. And while exploration is cool, it just wasn't well thought out. This is kind of a hallmark of some of the licensed Wizards of the Coast modules. Sometimes they just don't think so much about pacing. This is supposed to be the final chapter! It needs to be tense, not just wandering around an empty city and then oh, boss fight. They need to work for their information, dammit.
I love using modules, mind you. It lets me DM multiple games concurrently. If I had to make 1005 of the content for all of my games, there's no way I could run as many as I do. Out of my seven current games, two of them have moved into full homebrew, and I'm starting a third that will be homebrew from the start (more on that in a minute). The rest are modules. Sure the modules have a certain amount of homebrew content, but overall there's a plot line to follow. Sometimes, it just needs a touch of massaging.
I was bored yesterday, so you know what that means--I started a new game! This one is going to be based on Seanan McGuire's Indexing series. It follows a team of federal agents who are trying to keep fairy tales from incurring into the real world. (Sleeping Beauty becoming a contagion that sends a whole city into sleeping sickness, etc). We're using the Monster of the Week system, but are going to be jailbreaking it rather thoroughly. It should be interesting. It's going to take a little while to get set up, so we won't be jumping right into it, but I'm looking forward to it. Yet again, I was all "will anyone want to play in my weird little game?" and I already have 7 players. Even if the Confab game isn't well attended, I think I'll be okay.
Okay, time for me to consider pants and whatnot. Also maybe think about breakfast. Breakfast would be good. Everyone have an amazing Friday! You've made it to the weekend!
