You ever have one of those days that's just so frustrating that you're ready to scream, and then someone does something so utterly kind for you, and it makes your whole day? That was my yesterday.
I spent most of my morning trying to call Dad's case manager at the hospital. I got her once, only for her to tell me that she was getting ready to meet with the doctor and would call me back. So, I waited. I just wanted to make sure the doctor was aware that we needed rehab, and get a little more information. The morning went by, no call back. The afternoon went by, no call back. I was about ready to leave work early and go down and do some yelling when I got an email. One of my D&D group, having read my various bitching and Jess' posts about being sick, decided to take one thing off my plate, and sent us a Doordash gift card for dinner. I will not lie, I cried a little bit.
The case manager finally called me back around 4 to let me know that he was accepted at a rehab, and that they're expecting discharge in between 24-48 hours.
Once I finished work, I headed down to the hospital and spent some time with Dad. He's definitely perked up some, because he's very chatty. The two hours I was there, he talked my ear off. I'm really glad that he's feeling better.
His attending doctor called me around 8, just to tell me that he's doing well, and it's likely they'll be discharging him tomorrow (today). He didn't seem to know where, though. I'm so glad the departments keep each other updated. So, the final score is 6 days in the hospital and 1 unprompted phone call with an update. And I'm don't even know if I can call it unprompted, since I'm sure the case manager told him we were being a pain in her ass.
I would probably request this hospital again when we need it, because they give good care, but damn, they were annoying.
Today, I took off from work 2 hours early so that I can visit and be back before 7, when we have
poisontaster's awesome Monster of the Week game. Hopefully, I'll be packing his stuff to take to the rehab unit and going there, as then I don't have to pay for parking, but we shall see. I have to call them and ask what their visiting hours and policies are going to be. Since he has covid, it may be different than normal.
Jess is coughing and a little feverish, but hopefully the antivirals will keep their case mild. I am still healthy, though I'm still testing pretty much every day.
Tomorrow would have been my in-office day, but I took off rather than risk getting anyone sick, so I'm going to relax. Maybe go visit him early and let my sister visit in the evening. We'll see.
Okay, time to consider putting on clothes. Everyone have a wonderful Wednesday!
