I did not want to get up today. I haven't slept great the last couple of nights, and when my alarm went off, I just kind of laid there for a while before I actually bothered to get up. My sister said she was about to send a search party down for me. If I had stayed any longer, I probably would have fallen back asleep, and that would have been bad.
As expected, work was very dull. I did maybe five things in the entire day.
On the other hand, the day was not dull. On Thursday of last week, we had a dude from BGE, our gas and electric company stop by to ask why we hadn't gotten the new meter. Jess explained that we'd had a flood, and they were unable to do the meter, then once the flood had been corrected, they refused to do it, so they shut off our gas and wanted us to do a probable $10,000 clean up. He inspected the meter and our gas lines, seemed very confused, and said he would look into it. I really didn't expect much out of it.
However, yesterday morning, I got a call from a BGE contractor, wanting to come take a look. He came, looked around, nodded and asked if someone would be here on Monday so they could replace the meter and turn our gas back on. Bless BGE guy. We have been without gas for nearly 3 years now. We've made do with space heaters and an electric kettle and a camp shower.
But now, we're going to have hot water that comes from the wall! And heat. No more watching the thermostat drop to the 50's. I almost cried at the poor contractor, the relief was so great. The rest of the day, Jess and I just kind of stared at each other going "AAAAH!" It doesn't help a lot of my problems in general, but everything seems brighter today. I've been dreading the coming cold weather and now, I just don't have to. Dad will be warm, well as warm as he gets. We'll all be warm! No three blankets on the bed and still being cold sometimes. Seriously, bless BGE guy, whatever the fuck magic he worked.
Aside from that (!) the day was quiet. I made a nice honey garlic pork tenderloin which was very tasty. My sister's father in law continues to hang on. I'm debating taking off the first Sunday in November so I can sleep in while my sister is away. We're thinking about doing an overnight trip in October, maybe to Philly with the intent of hitting up the bistro we went to last time.
Not a ton going on til next Monday, really. Hopefully, things go smoothly and by evening time we'll all be taking nice hot showers. They said they'll be here at 8am, and it'll take about 6 hours to get everything done.
Okay, gonna go get dressed and get ready for my day. Have a good Tuesday everyone!
