How quickly things can happen when it's their time to happen, both good and bad. Last week, I was getting all stressed out about the upcoming nuptials, this week, I'm quietly bopping along, pretty happy and mostly stress free.

I'd like to keep it that way, but I'm pretty sure that at some point next week, I'll be gnashing my teeth, and pulling out hair.

Things to do in the next week:
1. Take the car in for an oil change and tune up.
2. Figure out what the hell I'm doing with my hair for the wedding. Considering braiding the sides/french braiding and weaving in strands of pearls, but there's a couple of really cute little half tiara things, and I still have a floral wreath from the RenFest. Jess found these cute little pearl/rhinestone barrettes, so she's set.
3. Print out wedding ritual on cute paper.
4. Get a cute binder for cute paper.
5. Get my fucking chipped tooth repaired.
6. Have class
7. Get rings charged and blessed.
8. See Hulk movie if at all possible.
9. Get handfasted!

Let's see, 3/4 quarter callers are set, Jess and I have attendants. Thanks to the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] tiadawn, [livejournal.com profile] earthkat and Margot, the food is taken care of. *worships* All that was left for us to get, food wise, was the wedding cake.

And so, yesterday, Jess and I set forth to find a pretty, pretty cake that we could cause a sugar high in our friends with.

First stop was at Ms. Desserts, where Den and Sonya got their very tasty cake at.

The woman behind the counter spent a good 10 minutes ignoring us, until we walked around and got in her face. This is not something that made me think "Gee, I want to drop $55 in your store." No matter how cute the cakes were, thank you. They only required 3 days notice, so we mentally put them down as 'last resort' and went on to Giant Bakery.

Unfortunately, Giant requires 2 weeks notice to make a wedding cake, as they must get a kit, so no go.

Then, off to Mars...again were ignored for several minutes before being presented with immeasurably unhelpful service. Cakes also highly ugly.

Called home, and got the phone numbers for several bakeries in the area, while massaging temples and mentally plotting painful demises for everyone who had annoyed me thus far.

Called around, discovered that the bakery closest to the house was a possibility, so went there. Young lady there was sweet, but not the brightest star in the sky. Also seemed profoundly uncomfortable with taking an order for a wedding cake, as she had not done it before. Instead, set up taste test for this Saturday at 1:00. may or may not keep appt.

Then, discouraged, and resigned to paying a lot of money for our cake, we made a last stop at Hermann's bakery. Were given their bridal book to look through, but couldn't make up our mind to save our asses. Which is when one of the young ladies behind the counter came over and struck up a conversation with us, offering to answer any questions.
When the discussion turned to the fact that we're only expecting 11 people, she asked if we had an attachment to any of the cakes. When we said not really, she suggested that they do a 1/4 sheet cake, and a six inch round cake on top of it, and list it to be "Decorated for a Wedding," which cuts the price in half, and means we won't have tons of cake left over. We still get burgundy and gold roses, and a really cool cluster of roses on the top, but instead of $65, it's $28. Needless to say, we jumped on it. She was really sweet, asked us which of us was getting married--when we explained, she kind of blinked, and told us that we'd thrown her for a second, but that she was really happy for us. And that she was going on a cruise with her cousin and her life partner next week. So, was cool.

Got lunch, picked up car, and stopped by Safeway for mom, at which time I again put [livejournal.com profile] earthkat's assertion that you can't use Rekki for evil to the test, and Rekki-ed the scratch off lottery machine before inserting my dollar. (I did this three weeks ago, and Jess won $20 off a $1 ticket.) Again, the Rekki worked it's mojo, and this time, we won $50! *dances*

So, in honor of that, we went to see the Italian Job. Wasn't too bad, but they needed better leads than Charlize Theron and Mark Wahlberg. On the other hand, Edward Norton, Seth Green, Mos Def, and Jason Statham were wonderful...and slashy. Oh, my god, the slash.
Of special note was Jason Statham, in whom, I've found my mental image of Butler, from the Artemis Fowl books. Realized that he's the dude from the Transporter, which I now must see, so god knows, he can do some martial arts.

Came home to a message from my boss--when I called him, it was to see if I could work a little later today, as his sister-in-law has a brain tumor, and he will need to go with her to Hopkins today, since her husband is off doing a trek across Alaska for his 50th birthday, and is un-reachable.

Of course, I told him whatever he needed, I'd be there. God knows how many times he's let me slide out early with Mom and Grandmom. It's the least I can do.

This morning, I popped over to MCW's website, to see if we had any matches up for the Shane Shamrock Memorial cup in 4 weeks, and found that the Cup will be the last MCW show. Ever. *sniff* I can understand the reasons, I know how hard it has to be to run both the school and the fed, and I respect their decision that they'd rather not do it if they don't have the time to do it right, but I'm going to miss them horribly. So, one last time, for all time.

And now, I shall eat my lunch. *nod*

I'm just hoping that the last show brings back some familiar faces. WWE was willing to lend us Lita for the last show, maybe they'll let some of the others visit one last time. *grin*

And thank you! It should be interesting, yet fun.

Aww; I hope you guys have fun that last time. Lita would, at least, draw for them.

Have fun!
