beansideI blame today's subject line on the several Bucky Barnes videos set to "Rasputin." As a result I've been sitting here singing "Ra-ra-rasputin, etc in my brain over and over. As Jess said, it's an earworm from hell.
Yesterday was a busy day. We did all our errands, starting with a trip to the dump. It really is satisfying to throw the trash bags over the edge into the pit. I enjoy that muchly. Then, it was off to grab lunch and go to the dispensary. Only one of them had Jess' Good Night pills, owing primarily to a new Maryland law that restricts edibles to 10mg/edible and 100mg per container. Their pills are 10mg, but they came 15 to a container, so presumably it's being repackaged to comply.
After that, it was Petsmart to get the kitties food and to Walmart to pick up groceries. We did curbside pickup on both, which made life much easier. Brief argument at Walmart, as the dude didn't want to take the tip, but I pointed out that it was a big order, and he saved us hours of shopping, and eventually he accepted it. I get the feeling they don't get tipped much there.
Then, it was home to play Monster of the Week! Of course, in the two hours between when we got home and the actual game, I had an idea slap me out of the blue, so that time was spent writing out the basic plot.
Our heroes got a call from the Summer Queen of the Faerie Lands, who they'd helped out previously. She was ready to pay her debt to them for finding her wand. She told them that they'd figured out where the group (and especially our Crooked-now turned protege to our Spell Slinger's) nemesis, Dessa. She said that she was in a dimension that had roots in Faerie, Specifically, on the Winter side of Faerie. They were to take a trip across Summer, through the demiliarized zone, which was a malevolent forest, into Winter, where the locals would want to kill or enslave them to get to the cave that was a passageway to Dessa's home.
They set off with a centaur as their guide, who our Spell Slinger quickly got a cell # from (Go Jasper, you get that horse dick!) He led them through Summer, where they ended up bribing a band of sprites for passage, and left them at the Forest of Night. Where it turned out the biggest threat was their old foe the Leshi, who they'd gotten banished back to Faerie in an earlier adventure.
The Leshi was quickly dealt with, and the vines were magically barred from the path, so they had an easy passage. Everyone stayed on the path like good little hunters and no one got eaten by the Banshee lurking in the woods.
They made their way through Winter, staying carefully away from villages, and saw humans being forced to work in the fields. Making a promise to come back and free them after getting Dessa, they continued on. A hunting horn sounded, and the Wild Hunt went by them repeatedly as they hid. They came upon some pixies beating on another pixie, and quickly intervened to save it. The pixie, Ardyll quickly joined their band. It told them that the Wild Hunt was searching for a human who had escaped the village.
Screaming came from ahead, and the hunters abandoned their stance of neutrality, and went to fight the Hunt. Some really good magic rolls later, the hunt was defeated, and the hunting hounds had been befriended. The human, Bronwyn was shaken, but uninjured. She told them she'd been in Fairie for over 100 years. They gave her a cold iron knife and headed to the cave to bargain with the hag for passage. Some silver bought her compliance, and it was off to Dessa's territory.
They broke into her crystaline palace, but found only Aarón Sánchez who said that Dessa had abandoned him the moment her wards were tripped by a semi-successful breaking and entering roll. He quickly switched sides, blaming Dessa for all his transgressions, and agreed to help them get her.
Yet again, they failed to catch Dessa in time, proving that she is indeed the slipperiest adversary!
We ended it there, with the team more determined then ever to catch their nemesis, and with a menagerie of new friends, as we added a pixie, three mud hounds a Bronwyn and an Aarón to the party!
