beansideSomehow, it's Sunday again. Not sure how that keeps happening. At some point, I need to consider taking a day off, so I have a three day weekend. I haven't done that in a while. Maybe when I get a few more hours of PTO in my bank. It was getting really low with all the time I was taking off for Dad's appointments. Now I'm back up to having over a full week of time off between PTO and Holiday pay, which is where I prefer to be. I like to have that cushion.
Yesterday was day one of Con.txt, and it was a lot of fun! I was in some interesting panels, where I learned more about money laundering and black market antiquities in prep for maybe some Leverage fic, and I played bingo during the "Ass in Jeopardy" panel, which was pretty entertaining, even if I was nowhere near bingo by the end.
They do DIY panels, and unfortunately, the Leverage panel ended up being against one on storytelling in TTRPGS. It was a hard choice, and I didn't decide until minutes before the panel, but I ended up attending the one on TTRPGS. It was a pretty interesting panel. Though the discussion on some of the gaming styles kind of made me sad. It seemed like some DMs use the job as a way to force social justice lessons on players who didn't sign up for that, and it bothered me. Also, the bit about the DM as antagonist was kind of eye opening. I've always DMed my games as a collaborative storytelling experience.
What that means is that I go into it as fans of my players characters. I help to guide the story, moving it forward in the directions that my players choose. I never think of it as them against me, and I don't think my players do, either. I don't think I'd enjoy that sort of game. Hearing about it just made me tired.
Several of my players were in the panel as well, and one had nice things to say about our game, which gave me warm fuzzies.
It was kind of funny, the owner of the Discord server I play on pimped the server in the TTPRG channel at basically the exact same time I pimped it in the Fan Gathering server.
During the discussion in the TTRPG, it was determined that one of the people chatting on it is hearing impaired, and thus online voice games aren't really accessible. I pondered that, and now I am prepping to play a text game of Feelings and Lasers. I hadn't really planned to sign up to GM anything else, but oh well. I'll enjoy it.
We watched a little bit of the vid show, which was excellent as always, but of course, I had to go to bed relatively early to be up at 6am, so we really only got through a handful of videos. More to be watched later.
For now, I shall have some more coffee and try to catch up on the Con.txt Discord server, where it appears people were up much later than I was.
