Woke up early on a Saturday as always. Stayed in bed til 7:30am when I heard Boodle doing...something outside our room. I got up and found that she had found a bumblebee, poor thing. I put it out of it's misery, since it was 3/4 of the way dead already. I wonder how it got in the basement? Boodle is apparently a mighty huntress.
I forgot to mention yesterday that we decided to postpone Dad's shot, since none of us were feeling 100%. I have an email into the Dept of Health to see when we could get him rescheduled. I just couldn't do it on Thursday. Plus my sister was in bed most of the day, so if we'd needed help with him, we'd have been out of luck.
I think I'm going to go into work tomorrow and take Tuesday off, just in case Jess is feeling rough. I want to be able to take care of them, and do their Dad duties if it's needed.
Downside of getting up a little later in the morning? It's now 8:20, and everyone is up. No more quiet time for me. I still have a Swedish lesson to do, which is always fun when everyone is talking. I don't feel like I'm quite getting the new verbs from yesterday, so I need to redo that. With D&D and all the stuff we watched, I didn't do it as many times as I normally do, so I feel behind today.
We watched Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Mortal Kombat yesterday. Spoilers ahoy!
Or should that be Captain America and the Winter Soldier! I really, really enjoyed the hell out of the show. As I've said in the past, Bucky is my favorite character and Sam isn't far behind, so I was going to enjoy this, unless they fucked it real hard. In my mind, it was a satisfying end. The showdown with the Flag Smashers was short, but it didn't really need to be longer for me. It was never the point of the show. The point was to show Sam and Bucky finding their footing in the world. One to start to forgive himself, and move forward after 70 years of torture, and one figuring out what it is to be a Black man who is Captain America.
On a purely visual level, the show delivered. The visuals were amazing, and damn, they found a lot of pretty people. Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan both brought their A-game.
My two favorite scenes, I think were the museum scene with Isaiah Bradley's exhibit. I legit teared up. And Bucky, finally saying the words "I didn't have a choice."
All in all, I felt like I'd finished a satisfying fanfic. I want more, but I was just happy with how it was wrapped up.
Mortal Kombat was also satisfying, in the way that a big dumb movie can scratch the itch. It was a pile of well choreographed fight scenes strung together by the thinnest of plots. Pretty people go punch. And may I just say, Lewis Tan is an especially pretty person. His charisma held the movie together. The scenes with Scorpion and SubZero were awesome. I was more of a Street Fighter girl, but this was just a lot of fun, and a good way to disengage the brain for an hour and a half.
Last night was D&D, and our party spent time in Good Mead, enjoying their hospitality (read, their mead). Then, it was off to Bryn Shandar to pick up some plot hooks and ferment rebellion. The people of Bryn Shandar, in an attempt to appease the Frost Maiden and end the winter, have been sacrificing people. Our heroes are so not down with that. After discussions with the temple priestess, it is determined that they'll discuss it with the small but vocal faction that wants the sacrifices to stop. A quick side trip to Targos finds a wayward sled dog, who, thanks to the paladin's speak with animals spell, tells them that his owner was injured by a creature. Entreated by the man's husband, they agree to set out and try a rescue. The way up is treacherous, and our heroes get caught in an avalanche along the way. Fortunately, the fighter's levitate ability saves them from getting carried along in it. They found the missing man and convinced him to go back to town while they look for the rest of his party. An attack by two crag cats (kitties!) ended in an uncharacteristic show of mercy, as the party beat the hell out of them, but left them alive and enclosed in a dome of ice. Next session, onto find the rest of the missing party!
