Yesterday, I was supremely unmotivated. I did absolutely nothing. Didn't go to the Amish market, didn't cook dinner. Instead, we went for a mostly meatless week of groceries, and I did pickup from Safeway. That was my sole accomplishment for the day: I drove half a mile, and let people put groceries in my car. Okay, I brought the groceries in, but that just doesn't seem like much.

1. Did you catch COVID-19? If yes, when, and was it bad?
I did catch it back in April of 2020 It didn't require hospitalization, but it was pretty bad. It was two weeks of misery and coughing and fevers and daily televisits with my PCP.
2. Did anybody close to you catch the virus, or even die from it?
My whole family caught it. I wouldn't say we were necessarily close, but my uncle did die of it.
3. Did you lose your job due to the pandemic or did your work situation change considerably? Home office? My job sent us home in mid-March, and that's where we've been ever since. At first, I had a desk in the living room, which was not ideal, but Jess cleaned out the junk room somewhat, and now I have an actual office!
4. Have you already been vaccinated? If yes, with which vaccine and how did it go?
Got my first shot of Pfizer on Tuesday. I had a pretty definite response to it! My immune system looked at it and went "Holyshit, this again?!" and went to work.
5. Has your mental health suffered due to and during the pandemic?
Some. Not nearly as much as I would have expected. Part of that is because of work. It might be in a different location, but I was still keeping the routine of work. Also, during the early part of the pandemic, I tried to keep busy. Online Richard Marx concert, sure! Cons went online? Let's do it. Then, during one of those cons, the best savior of my mental health was born. A small TTRPG server was born, and I joined. Since then, I've always had something to look forward to and plan for. And on D&D weekends, I know that those three hours a game are going to be spent having a good time. It's really helped my mental health to carve out those six hours.
6. How do you judge the performance of your local and national government during the past year? Maryland did really well at the start. We closed down pretty thoroughly. Then, over the last 6 months, we've steadily reopened, no matter what cases did. Our vaccine rollout was shitty, and we're still scrambling to get people vaccinated, even as we open the vaccine to more people.
7. What is the worst memory you will conserve from the past year? What made you angry?
The leadup to the election is my worst memory. So many people willing to choose hatred. The Cheeto made me angry every damn day.
8. And, if there is one, the best memory? What made you happy?
Playing Monster of the Week for the first time, and laughing so hard I needed my inhaler.
9. Do you think we are over the worst period of this pandemic by now?
I'm worried about a third surge fed by spring break right now and all the variants. I'm hopeful that things will get better soon, but I think we have some more bumps to get over
10. Is there anything you would have done differently a year ago if you knew what you know now? Did you, knowingly or not, incur big risks to catch the virus? I don't think I'd have changed anything. We did our best with what we had.
11. What about your body? Lost or gained weight? Illnesses of other kinds? Fitness? Injuries?
I think I've maintained the status quo.
12. Did you lose or gain friends? Keep in contact with those you already had?
I gained new friends from the games server. I haven't been as good at keeping in contact with the people I already know, but I'm trying to do better.
13. How did you spend your free time? Did you get creative? Learn new stuff? Read a lot? Write a book? I surfed the web a lot. Nothing else, honestly. I didn't do anything productive.
14. Do you have children? If yes, how did you manage everything, from homeschooling to having to keep them at home and deal with their desire to meet other kids? Did you have to seek professional help of some kind? How was the school situation in general where you live? No kids, thankfully. Just the furry kind, and they were thrilled that I was home more.
15. What will be the first thing you will do when it is possible again?
I will drive down to DC and meet up with my Monster of the Week group for brunch. We've already made plans.
And now, I shall drink more coffee and get ready for work.
