Maryland seafood is weird. There's someone on the news currently trying to convince me to eat raw oysters. I like fried oysters, like on a poor boy sandwich, but I have some issues with raw. The taste is okay, but it's kind of like swallowing snot. Not attractive to me at all, even with copious amounts of cocktail sauce. I'll stick with Maryland crab cakes, or better yet, crab imperial. Shellfish are the one thing that tastes normal, so I am all behind anything that involves it.
Today, it has been one year working from home. I was part of the pilot work from home program, which did not make me popular, I might add. I was very grateful that when I got back to my seat after being issued my computer, everyone else had left for the day. I was technically supposed to go back on Sunday, but I managed to get the flu, and called out, because I was coughing my brains out. I had already called out a second day when the Center manager called to alert me that we were going full work from home. I ended up un-calling out, and have been at home since. Here's hoping that it continues permanently. I don't miss any of it. Having lunch with people was nice occasionally, but overall, I prefer being able to walk to my kitchen and grab a snack whenever I want.
Of course, after I posted yesterday we had drama. My sister dropped her keys and I swear, they went into a pocket dimension. We couldn't find it to save our life. She ended up taking my car, while Jess and I continued the search. It was eventually found, in a place we'd looked a couple of times, but it was a worried few hours.
Maryland is reopening restaurants at full capacity and theaters at 50%. I'm not sure it's a good idea, especially since we're doing really shitty at vaccinations. It's like our governor suddenly remembered that he's a Republican. He's still recommending work from home, though, so that's something? Still, we'll probably get some tourism $$ out of it, which I think is the point.
After soliciting a little help from coworkers, I got the project done yesterday and sent it on to the operational director. I think my manager will be pleased that it got done in good time, and that I directed a team of people to do it. Since I mentioned my managerial aspirations, he's been all about about getting me ready. The center director is on all the emails that I'm sending, so it gets my name in front of her as someone who gets shit done, which has to help, hopefully.
