Y'know, aside from the occasional crippling boredom, I could get used to not working. Well, and the guilt of not bringing any money in. I have issues with that, too. But that's why I'm doing the Reiki practice. I figure that if I can get a few clients, it'll be all good. 10 clients a week would be awesome. That's kinda my starting goal. If in 6-9 months I can be doing that, it'd be awesome.

Spending our last morning house-sitting. I'll miss having somewhere to go to when the family starts to drive us crazy.

Did a puppy run last night. Pictures to come of the little booger. OMG, so cute. Little five pound pug mix named Corky. He snorgled right into Jess' boobs and slept the whole way. We had the honor of taking him to his new home, which are the best transports. His new mama took one look and was in love. So, that was our warm fuzzy for the day.

Today, it's all housekeeping, cleaning up after ourselves, etc. Whoo.

I've been debating on whether or not to address the meme, but what it boils down to is that I don't give a fuck. I would link to Neil Gaiman's "George R. Martin Is Not Your Bitch" rant, but it would be too much trouble.

What I will say, however, is that every single story we WIP has an ending. Many of them have the plot worked out chapter by chapter. And eventually, they'll be finished. In the meantime, feel free to PM me if you have questions about any of them. It's not like it's any great secret.

I love all of our commenters, and anyone who has ever said that they enjoyed a story, and I am eternally grateful to all of them. I have many of them bookmarked for bad days. It's been a really shitty couple of years, and both Jess and my writing time has diminished. Now that I'm laid off, I have all the time...but also all of the depression attached with losing a job of 15 years with little warning. Right now, I write when I'm able, and I write what comes to me, whether it's another WIP, or some work on older stuff. I'd say that I wouldn't post another WIP, but really, it's WIP, or I never post. Until someone's willing to pay me for a deadline, that's how it is.

Your WIPs are a better read than a lot of finished pieces I've read. I found myself not reading to the end of fics this month (short attention span because of the baby) and so I've been reading through you guys' masterlist of fics. The journey is amazing.

I'm sorry to hear about your job situation. That's incredibly rough. The most important thing I've heard from other people in a job-loss situation is to make yourself a "workday" schedule to keep you on task and busy. You are still important and productive and your time has value.

I'd say "good luck" but what I feel is more "I hope you find your own strength and grow into the fullness of who you are in this difficult situation"

And also, even if you're getting paid to write, sometimes deadlines are helpful, and sometimes they just force people to crank out crap.

Other than that, thanks for mentioning the Neil Gaiman rant. I hadn't read that before, but I've got to tell you, maybe it's the heat (it's finally acting like summer here, bleh), but I've got very little patience for the sense of entitlement I've seen from fans on a couple of fronts lately.

Also, if you post WIP slowly, there's a chance I'll actually have time to send feedback. Esp. when livejournal eats my comments three times. ;-}

It pisses me off that you and Jess even have to address that stupid fucking hate meme because unless they're paying you to write your stories, they can seriously just shut the fuck up about the WIPs. You and Jess have lives outside of fandom, and you're dealing with enough things that you don't need some overly entitled fan whining about how she's being oppressed because your story isn't done on her schedule.

I haven't posted about that meme because a) it's just pathetic, even moreso than normal since everyone's grudge-wanking about shit that happened years ago, and b) I don't want to give them more publicity than they've already got, but I was incredibly angry to see those stupid, hurtful comments left about you and Jess. I'm sorry to hear about your job, that bites. But how awesome if the window opening was the Reiki thing. I had a Reiki massage in February, and it was a wonderful, healing, beautiful experience. What a cool thing to be able to do for people.

I don't comment often (at all?) but I wanted to let you know that I wish you the best with your work situation and with your health.

That said, I would rather read a snippet from you or Jess than a fully finished story by many other people. Ironically, I spent time this week re-reading (for the 3rd or 4th time) your JDM/CMM verse, because I was having trouble finding new stuff to read, and that verse never fails to make me happy.

You guys live in a world that is confusing and scarey to me ;-) Sometimes I have a glimmering of what you're talking about.. often I don't. When I don't there are times when I am curious and times that I am grateful that I don't know.

That said, the Neil Gaimen thing rocks my socks and any arguement you are making that is supported by that essay has my full backing.

Didn't have the best connection when this all went down, and so remain for the most part ignorant of the context. But in the meantime, my brain kept percolating on the WIPs I've read, and continue to read and specifically on the whys of loving them.

WIPs are stories that still feel alive. I can anticipate what's yet to come, like figuring out a mystery or resolving a complicated situation into a simple explanation -- and with the best WIPs (of which I'm sure you and nilchance have written many, but I'm only desperately attached to two) even if I have to set aside future tangents devised only in my head, it's okay because what actually happens is oftentimes even better. When long-held expectations are met, then exceeded, it can lift my spirit for days.

Meanwhile, because I'm not hurtling towards a conclusion (i.e. skimming over details) I can take the time to revel and enjoy the writing, or imagery, or ... whatever little treasures I stumble across on the journey.
