Have y'all seen the Gamestop commercial with the bunny? It's looking for coins, and it's kinda bored. "Oh, there's one. *little sonic like noise of coin retrieval* There's another one. *little Bring!*"

Then, it gets sucked into an underground cave that's STOCKED with coins. And it's all "Holy shi-*bring!*"

That's how I felt last night.

I forgot that I should be missing Sam. I forgot...everything. I spent the majority of the episode with my mouth hanging open going "Oh, holy shit."

So, let's see. Where to start.

I loved that John was so sweet. Very much the John we saw in the pilot. Kind and gentle, and willing to put the war behind him. I loved that Mary kicked her son in the balls. I loved Mary. God, I loved Mary.

Grandpa Campbell was AWESOME.

Okay, so basically, I love this ep, the end. I loved that Dean was willing to sacrifice hundreds, maybe more for his parents. I loved Castiel's sad, pitying looks.

Oh, hai, Kripke, you can haz my soul now?

And in conclusion: Oh, Dean. Your family has been fucked up so much longer than we expected. Also, nice to see that you get the martyr thing from both sides.

I have to admit I laughed a tiny bit when Mary ATTACKED Dean because in my head I was going "child abuse! Child abuse! Mommy hits Dean!" Sometimes inappropriate things amuse me.

And I loved sweet John too. This is the John Dad could have been. He's a nice solid guy who loves his family. I think that hunter John is also a nice solid guy who loves his family, but sometimes the squishier, more hug-a-licious aspects of nice-guy John get hidden by the hunter.

This episode killed me. I'm a little annoyed with Castiel because it seemed like an excersise in cruelty. Sure, Dean learns that his family was destined to be hunted by the YED... but who wants to learn that? And who wants to learn that by THINKING they have a chance of fixing things this time. Of SAVING his family. Of giving Sam a safe childhood. To give John his WIFE. And to let Dean grow up with a mother and not a memory. And then to find out there was never any chance of altering things? :( This makes me sad and pissy towards Castiel.

Great episode though, even though I missed Sam at times. The fact that Dean was named after GRANDMA though helps make up for the fact that we basically got to wave at Sam and then never see him again. Oh and Castiel watching Dean sleep like a creepy creepy stalker, was also made of win.
