*snore*

So, after 9 months of Neurontin, I'm weaning off it. I don't think it's helping much at all, if any, plus the side effects suck ass. I'm hoping that I get most of my brain cells back once it's out of my system. On www.crazymeds.us, they call it Morontin, which is very apt. It makes me forget words, lose thoughts, and just totally be prone to forgetting important things. Also, since that's not annoying enough, it reduces the overall effectiveness of the pain meds I'm on by up to 20%. Whoohoo.

Aside from that I'm hoping that my health insurance will be kicking in on November first, and then I can go about the business of getting fixed. The one downside may be that there is a pre-existing condition clause, but I may be able to pay that down. We shall see. I'm slowly coming around to the fact that I may need surgery, though it scares the ever living fuck out of me. The thing that bothers me most isn't the surgery, though that does too. The thing that freaked me out was the post surgery stuff. Most importantly that after the surgery they need to keep your head still for the bones to set there's a variety of ways to do that, one of which is the halo brace. That, right there, scares me. I don't want a halo brace screwed into my skull.

But, as Jess said, we'll get through it. *Shrug*

Spent Saturday with the coven. [livejournal.com profile] alysonwonderlan had a lovely ritual, and [livejournal.com profile] earthkat kindly let us bogart her puppy for much big-dog snuggling and cuddles. I love Kyan, but god, I miss a dog you can thump.

I still haven't been sleeping as well as I'd like. Case in point, I woke up at five today, and no amount of laying there was getting me back to sleep. On the plus(?) side, I got to work early and...did absolutely nothing.

*hugs* I'm sorry about the potential halo brace. That does sound scary. I mean obviously it's an effective way to help people heal, but it still sounds scary.

BOOOO Morontin. YAY getting off it and getting your mind back and your pain meds effective - if the benefits aren't even demonstrable, but the side effects are that fucked up, you're totally making the right decision.

You'll also make the right decision re: surgery, because you're a smart human like that and you'll demand to know everything you can possibly know. You will get through it because you have a loving, supportive wife and friends who will help you. <3

*sends good thoughts and hugs*

I hope you find a way forward that works for you. And believe me I understand about finding the idea of surgery scary.

Playing around with meds is no fun, and side-effects are actually worse. I'm glad to hear that you might be able to get off one more thing. Also yay for insurance, I know just how hard it is to do anything without it.
As to surgery, *crosses fingers* I really hope you don't end up having to go there. It is scary, but if it'll help, you know a whole bunch of people will be supporting you every step of the way... not that helps in the immediate decisions, but support really does help with healing.

I'm here because I read your fic (but I'm posting as anonymous because I don't remember my password :(.

I was on neurontin for seizures and it sucked--it made me stutter and just feel mindless. My neuro never believed me and just said those were just temporary side effects. I'm so glad I'm off it now. Also--I'd never heard of crazymeds.us--wonderful site.

And I should say--love your fic :)
