So, yesterday I went to see my beloved Primary Care Doctor. Y'know, the one who took ten minutes to tell me that my spine was fucked after FIVE goddamn years of pain and at least 6 other doctors who missed it while I still had health insurance. (Yes, I'm still bitter.)

And...well, he kinda laid it all out for me. Said I should probably concentrate on stretching the muscles at home, because if the Chiro hadn't made drastic improvements by now, it probably won't. Once I get insurance, he wants me to go to a pain management clinic for cortisone and lidocane injections into my spine. Ew.

The vertebrae will never get better. They will either deteriorate further, stay the same, or slip into my spine, necessitating emergency surgery.

In the attempt to prevent this, he gave me the list of things that Teresa SHOULD NOT DO.

1. Rollercoasters. Well, hell. *sigh*

2. Bumper Cars.

3. Bungie jumping

4. I may ride a horse, but at no more than a walk, and it must be a sedate horse, on basically flat ground.

5. No All-Terain Vehicles or motor cross, or biking in terrain where a fall is a distinct possibility.

6. No workout machiens that put a bar behind your neck or on your forehead.

7. Anything that could severely jolt my neck, head or has a high possibility of falling on my head or neck.

I was so very thrilled by all of this, let me tell you.

On the other hand, he agreed that my anti-depressant was probably needing a change, and switched me to generic Zoloft (And he remembered to tell me to taper the Celexa! Very exciting!)

Does this mean I can't accidentally nail you into the headboard anymore?

I love you, baby.

I'm glad that your doctor is caring and pays attention to things. I'm sorry that the message wasn't better. But at least you know now and can try and change/manage things. Hopefully insurance is in your near future and you can start the pain management he mentioned. *hugs*

Mmmm...dunno, should I call and ask him?

I'm seriously thinking about discontinuing chiro.

1. I'm not sure how much it's helping.

2. I'm a little concerned about the adjustments doing further damage.

*hugs* Thank you! Also, are you coming down for Con-txt?

We're debating on whether or not to go, so we wanted to see how many people are doing it.

Okay, love. If it's not helping, then why go? I'd talk with him about it, though.

I will, but I feel a little guilty about it. Most Part of me would rather just talk to Amber.

Yes I'm coming to con.txt, I was going to mention it in my response but decided not to and do it on another post. :) But yes I'm coming, and [livejournal.com profile] hederahelix is currently planning to attend as well (we're rooming together). Things may change for her but right now she's coming.

So selfishly I want you to go, I so want to see you guys, especially since circumstances were against us the last time. So, please go! :)

Are they going to give you any physical therapy to strengthen muscles around weak areas?

well you might want to ask your doctor about cymbalta even though it is an antidepressant they have been using it for nerve pain. My dad has chronic Back Pain from degenerative disks, he was started on cymbalta and had decreased pain the first week he was on it. All I can say is hang in there. I had a spinal fusion in 2001 L5-S1 and it worked great! Then I had a tumour removed from T5-T6 on 1-30-08 developed a CSF leak three days after returning home, back in the hospital 2-11-08,had 3 more surgies within 6 days now I have Ataxia, my feet are numb and my balance is crap (I can walk with a walker). They're hopefull I'll make a full recovery but it could take up to 2 years. So I understand where you're coming from. Just listen to your Doctor and follow his directions cause your spine is nothing to mess with. I hope things get better for you soon. (love you and you wifes writing, it Kicks Ass!!!

The problem there is that I don't actually have health insurance, and the cymbalta is kinda expensive.

Right now, it's gentle stretching and trying to loosen the muscles up. They're pretty prone to spasms at the moment.

Then, yeah, I imagine he'll have me doing more.

*insert old lady voice here* Och, the spasms. I grok and have mad <3 and sympathy.

I'm glad your doc's working with you. He seems like he will help you strengthen, rather than just plop you on a fainting couch and prescribe ennui.
