I had just woken up and taken my Rybelsus at 5 when the cat started coming down to bother me. I suppose I should be grateful she waited that long. But after that, it was game on, and the game was annoy mom enough to come upstairs and feed me. I cracked about 5:30am. Now I'm sitting here blearily drinking coffee and trawling the Black Friday sales. I have no money to hit them, but I like looking.
We're still in the "getting stuff for the apartment" phase. Right now, I'm especially looking for some decent kitchen knives, and also some mixing bowls and some food storage containers. The knives are top on my list, followed by the food storage. I'd kind of like to get glass food storage containers, just so that I can put spaghetti in them without staining them for all time. We also need some bakeware. We've been using aluminum pans, which are fine, I'm okay with continuing them for some of the more messy stuff like hashbrown casserole and the like, but we need some baking sheets, and a good cast iron pan. I want to be able to make cornbread, and cast iron is the best for that.
The knives are kind of my Waterloo. I want good knives that will stay sharp for a long time. The Ikea knives we have aren't bad, but they don't hold an edge for long. I want something that can cut a tomato without smooshing it at all. Problem? Good knives are fucking expensive--well out of my price range. I'm hoping for a set for around $160. That will get you a fairly okay chef's knife if you're lucky. So I'm looking. We also need steak knives. Those are a little less expensive, thankfully. When I get paid on Wednesday, I'll order a knife block. Probably will not be the $575 Japanese Damascus set of my dreams, but I'll find something.
Yesterday was very chill and relaxed, and I was bored shitless. I ended up running a little game after dinner, because if I didn't have something to do, I was going to chew my arm off.
Dinner was lovely. The smoked turkey from Sam's Club wasn't too salty and the sides and desserts from Fogo were excellent. Very good, no notes.
I'm plotting for our first full night in the apartment. Jess and I are coming with the movers on Saturday hopefully with Boodle, if she isn't busy hiding after the movers. Shelly and Yoda are coming over on Sunday, since she's not bringing her bed. That'll give us Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday to set up her bed and let her mattress expand. I'm hoping we'll be able to get most stuff set up on Saturday. There will be some stuff that we bring ourselves between 12/31 and 1/4 and set up ahead of time, of course. I'm still hoping to get our couches delivered on 12/31, while I'm there waiting for Verizon to set up our internet. On Saturday, one of the first things that gets set up is my office area, because I have to work on Monday.
Speaking of, gotta get myself together for work. I'm not really sure how today is going to be. We shall see! Everyone have an excellent Black Friday!
