And it's Monday. The day that I start doing delivery updates. Ew. I haven't had to do them on the new computer yet, so we'll see how that goes.
Yesterday, I signed off early. I'd done all the markets, and I had a headache, and I was just kind of done. Plus, I had shit to do that I'd rather do in the daylight hours. So, I took off a few hours. I don't regret it at all.
Instead of sitting and doing nothing, we went to the weed store to pick up more gummies for Jess, and to Petco to get Sam more of his ungodly expensive food. We've started him on kitten food for the calories, and holy fuck it's pricey. This cat is going to bankrupt me.
Once we came home, I laid down for a bit, got up for a bit, then went and laid back down as my head was a little better, but my neck was so tight it felt like it I moved my head, it would just snap off and roll away. Jess came down with me and we discussed D&D like the nerds we are. All in all, a nice quiet evening and to bed early, which is always good for me.
It's funny, these days, the latest I ever stay up is for the Friday night game, which runs anywhere from 10pm to midnight. This week, it's on Saturday though. The one year anniversary game. Because apparently we are all sentimental about the campaign. Plus, it's always a good thing to start the year the way you want it to go, right? I feel like I should plan something special. I've got a monster I've been holding in reserve, so it might be time to deploy it..
Basically, the party has been enough of a nuisance to the BBEG (Big Bad Evil Goddess, in this case) that she's started taking a personal interest in fucking their shit up. It serves a two fold purpose. On one hand, combats are fun. There's nothing my players love more than just beating the ever-living hell our of monsters or evil warlocks or whatever. On the other, it brings the BBEG back into the game, as otherwise, she's kind of shunted to the backburner while you work on side quests.
I've had to up the stat blocks of a lot of monsters to give my party more of a challenge. We had a few total curb stomps, and I don't know how much fun they are. It's infinitely more fun when the party has to get creative about their fighting style. I did enjoy the Frost Giant Skeletons of the last fight, so I'll probably deploy some of them again as well. They turned our cleric into a popsicle, and panicked the rest of the party. (Never good when your primary healer is the target.)
On the plus side, over the last year, I've settled into my DMing style. It's definitely more Rule of Cool than Rules as Written, and I'm okay with that. I'm not Brendan Lee Mulligan or Griffin McElroy, and that's good. They're not me, either. But, on the other hand, listening to their actual play podcasts have definitely made me a better DM. My players seem happy, and they keep coming back for more, so it's all good.
Okay, I've babbled about D&D enough for the day. Everyone have the best Monday you can possibly have!
