Got back into town yesterday afternoon, after a wonderful vacation. Promptly crashed hard, not surprisingly.
So, a quickie version of our trip...
Wed: Arrived around 12:30 into San Antonio Airport. Flight was bumpy, but not horrible. Reminded of why I hate airplane bathrooms, also known as vertical flying coffins. Nothing like trying to sit and pee, and being bounced halfway off the seat.
Checked in at the Super 8, and went with her parents on general errands. Taco Cabana makes the best fajitas I've ever had. (When they say "family size," though, they mean a family of 6, I think.)
Got a tour of the local Air Force base, and then headed back to relax with the in-laws. They were on their best behavior, so it was actually a very nice visit.
Thurs: Got up early and messed around for a bit before we headed over to the AirForce Village, which is a lovely senior community for veterans that her parents have bought a bungalow at. We had an early Thanksgiving dinner at the community center at the Village, which was lovely. Good food, my beloved looking wonderful, and champagne. Mmmm... After that, we relaxed for a bit, took a little walk, and then, went to see the Polar Express. I have a lot of issues with that movie, but overall, it was entertaining.
Afterwards, we chilled some more before heading back to the motel for a good night's sleep.
Friday was easily our busiest day. We got up early to head off on our own to Sea World.
Sea World was one of those great and magical days where everything worked well. We got there early, parked right by the gate. After getting our tickets, they let us right into the park, to wander the front courtyard area until 10, when the park officially opened.
After 20 years, I finally got to see a Clydesdale up close, which excited me quite a bit. Most of our time before the gate opened was spent in the barn, talking to the absolutely beautiful (and humongous!) Busch and Bud.
When it got close to 10:00, we headed to the pathway to the Dolphin Cove feeding and interaction area to get a shot at feeding a real dolphin. Had the best time! Petted the dolphins, fed them tasty slimy fish. They're so adorable! And rubbery. *grin*
After that, we walked the park, went on the R.L. Stein themed Haunted Lighthouse 4D attraction, which was cool, albeit cheesy. Had a little snark here and there, so it wasn't too bad. "No one wanted to help them (the ghosts) because they were different...and a bit homicidal..." *snerk* Then, we hit the "Steel Eel" a very, very cool rollercoaster. It was all hills and hang time. My ass left the seat repeatedly, and I loved it. After that, we walked around the park a little more, saw the penguins (so cute!) and got a water, which we drank as we walked past Shamu, and then onto the area for younger kids. Promptly played on the cargo nets (I climbed all the way up, which was a major accomplishment for me!)
The Texas Splashdown log flume was freaking awesome, and we rode it 3 times in a row, getting progressively more soaked each ride. Then, it was back to the Steel Eel for another two rides, the last of which we were in the front car (so cool!) Then, we caught the beluga whale show, stopped at the dolphin feeding again, saw the sharks, and headed out for the city to meet up with the in-laws.
Watched the San Antonio Tree/Riverwalk lighting and the holiday parade. It was kinda underwhelming, but cool. Then, we had dinner at a less than exciting mexican restaurant. After that, Jess parents headed home, and we walked the Riverwalk a bit, and took the narrated cruise under the hundred thousands of lights. The cruise was wonderful, and we got some great pictures.
After that, we headed for the car, but made a detour to hit Coyote Ugly. Hot, hot women, good Tequila shots, and oh yes...Jess danced on the bar. (I have pictorial proof.) I was also invited up, but the bad shoulder betrayed me, and I was unable to haul my ass up. Next year, I will be up there, too. The chick who picked us to go up on the bar was this gorgeous African American woman who will forevermore be Lilith in my mind. Had a great time listening to them heckle the men with some of the foulest language I've ever heard, and watching them grind against each other. *purr*
Saturday, we headed to the Alamo, since I've been informed that it is illegal to be in that part of Texas and not visit the Alamo. It was pretty cool, though crowded as all fuck. Then, to the botanical gardens which were beautiful. (and fucking huge! my poor thighs were screeching by that time, between SeaWorld, Riverwalk and gardens!)
Then, we relaxed for a bit, watched Pirates of the Carribean again, and went to dinner at Marie Calendar's (so good!). Then, back to San Antonio, for more of the Riverwalk, and a stop at Pat O'Brien's. Jess drank a hurricane, and good chunk of my rainstorm, and was rather nauseous that evening.
Sunday, we headed home and crashed hard. I was dozing off by seven, but forced myself to stay awake til 9. Slept like a log.
Of course, we're busy at work, but it's all in the afternoon which, of course, means that I'll be running late to get Jess from work (I'll be picking my car up this evening, hopefully. It's going to cost me $255, mostly for shit that should have been fixed after the accident. Dumbasses. Am calling Ed & Jim's to raise hell later.
Will have pictures online by Friday afternoon, I hope. *nod* Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!
Now, back to the Polar Express...
( Cut for potential spoilers )
